The day was bright and warm, so all of those from S. S. No.5 south to the town­ line. took advantage) of it. Nearly every home for ifour mile was re­ presented. The sports started about three p.m. and lasted till nearly six o’clock after which nearly 100 sat down to well laden tables. At this time a new committee was appointed for the coming year. At 7 o’clock all interested in either foot ball or soft ball took part in some interesting games. About 8.45 the games broke up all satisfied that they had had' a good afternoon’s sport. The result of the sports were: All children taking part in the races under 9 years old received prizes after which three prizes where given for each race. Boys’ 12 and under. N-JOY-U-ALL PICNIC About one hundred persons at­ tended the N-Joy-U-All annual picnic, resident oif the 2nd con. of Stephen, at Grand Bend on 'Saturday, June 15 th. The large list of sports were in charge of the south section. Of­ ficers elected for next year are Wm. Preszcator, President;. Baynham and daughter Jean spent Sunday with Mrs. Baynham at Bos- senberry’s hotel at Forest. Mrs. John Baird spent Sunday in Thedford. Miss Thelma McPherson who has been confined to her bed the last three weeks witlh trouble in her leg, was taken to. the Children’s War Memorial Hospital in London Sat­ urday for an X-ray and treatments. Mr. McPherson who spent the week­ end in London returned home Mon­ day. Mrs. .Lloyd Fraser, of Greenway, visited a ifew days the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hamilton and son Barry, of Grand Bend spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Edwards and son TIerb and daughter Vera, of Ingersoll, spent 'Sunday with rela­ tives here. Mrs. Edwards is re­ maining on a visit. Mr. D. Kilpatrick and Mrs. Kate Hedden and daughter of Hensall visited relatives here on Sunday, A large number from here took in the Sunday School picnic at Grand Bend on Saturday. Mrs. Aaron Wein took a load of men to the wrestling match in Lon­ don on Monday evening. KHIVA Mr. and Mrs. Harold Glanville, of Exeter and Mrs. Chris. Dinney, left last week on a motor trip to Mani- toulin Island where they intend to spend a couple of weeks. Miss Clara Douglas spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kuntz of the 14th of Hay. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Weiss and fam­ ily and Mr. Wm. Weiss, of Kinkora spent Sunday with Mr. and M.rs. J Hanover. Mr. and. Mrs. Herb Truemner and Miss Kathleen and Peter 'Truemner. of Flint, Mich., and M.rs. Catherine Truemner, of 'Sebawing, Mich., spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. J. Ratz. Stade and son Melvin visited relatives in (Seaforth Monday. CHISELHURST The W. M. S. met in the school room of the church for. their .regular monthly meeting with the president Mrs. A. Cudmore in the chatr. The roll call was 'responded to by a v'brse on “faith” and minutes of last meet­ ing read and approved. The Scrip­ ture lesson was read by Mrs. Buch­ anan and Devotional Leaflet by Mrs; E. Cudmore. The chapter from the Study Book was taken <by Mrs. Ed. Chappel, Mrs. J. Turnbull and Mrs. Buchanan also a splendid temper­ ance reading was given. A Challenge tor the youth. The offering was: then taken and the meeting closed with singing and prayer by .the president. Flower Sunday was observed in the church on Sunday last when the church was beautifully decorated with home grown flowers and the choir of young people led the service in song. The pastor’s message was taken from Solomon 2-12, “The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing qf birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in the land.” This message was listened to by a good congregation. The young people spent a very pleasant social evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. Cudmore's last Tuesday evening, games and contests were enjoyed and refreshments. serv­ ed at the close. Mr. Henry Purdy left the hospital on Friday and is with his daughter Mrs. Selves. WOODHAM The annual Sunday School picnic was held Saturday last at Stratford Park. The day was ideal and a large crowd attended. The afternoon was spent in races and ball games. Several from here attended the trousseau tea Friday afternoon and evening last given in honor of the bride-elect, Miss Pearl Baker, Gran­ ton. Whalen anniversary services were held Sunday last and many from here attended. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Anderson, of Washington, visited at the latter’s home here on Sunday last. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Wynn were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. C. Routly of Kirkton. Mrs. Ed. Arnold, of Chapman Kansas, has been spending a few days with her cousin Mrs. James Squire and other relatives at Zion. Rev. F. Sawyer, of London, was a recent visitor with his sisters Mrs. C. Cameron and Mrs. W. Switzer. Mr, and Mirs. Albert Scott and family visited Sunday last at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. George of Whalen. Mission Circle was held Thursday evening last at the home of Miss Laura Rundle. Miss Audrey Johnson spent Thurs­ day of last week with Mists Evelyn Camm. Mr. and Mrs. James Squire, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Anderson and Mrs. Ed. Arnold visited iSunday last at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. Cope­ land, of Kirkton. The tea held on Tuesday evening of last week was very suc­ cessful. A good crowd was present and the play “The Path Across the Hill” by the Staffa Young People was well presented and much enjoy­ ed. The proceeds amounted to over $70.00. Mr. and Mrs. Ephriam Hern, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hern, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hern and families attended the Taylor Reunion on Saturday at Springbanto. The many friends of Miss Thelma Jaques are sorry to learn of her ill­ ness and hope for a speedy recovery. Mrs. George Hunter, of Exeter, is waiting on Mrs. Go.rvett, who is do­ ing nicely. Ireland, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Stebbins have gone on a holiday trip to Montreal motoring by way of the St. Lawrence River. Mrs. Ellen Desjardine of Grand Bend entertained at a full-course dinner at the Brenner House, Grand Bend, to celebrate the twentieth wedding anniversary of her daugh­ ter, and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Devine, of Dashwood, on Sat­ urday, June Sth. Mrs. Desjardine presented her daughter with a yellow tanette pierced plate and handle in honor of the occasion, Elda Mae Devine, her granddaughter, with a cameo ring, Mrs. Mary Desjardine Mrs. Maggie LaFond, of Grand Bend Mrs. Selina Schraeder, of Saskatoon Sask., sisters of Mrs. Desjardine and Mrs. Lavina Tetreau, of Dashwood and Mrs. L. Tetreau, of Grand Bend, sister-in-law of Mrs. Desjardine each with a Kingfisher feathei* and silk brooch, Mrs. Russell Webb with a rose brooch, master Mervin R. Webb witlh a nursery bowl, and a box of cigars was distributed to the men, including Erwin H. Devine, grand­ son of Mrs. Desjardine, Tuffield Te­ treau, Grand Bend, Isaiah Tetreau, Dashwood, brothers of Mrs. Desjar­ dine and Mr. Russell Webb, of Dash­ wood. A social evening was spent in the lounge of the hotel playing bridge.
