Mr. Paul Coates, who underwent an operation in St.. Joseph’s Hospit­ al, London, returned to iris home on Saturday and is making a satisfac­ tory recovery. Mrs. D. Elliott, of Brantford, is visiting with her son Rev. A. E. and Mrs. Elliott ,at the Main St. Parson- - age. Mrs. Elliott expects to spend - the winter here. .Allan Penhale while working in . the bush with his father on Satur- - day had the misfortune to cut la gash ! in his foot with -an axe, which re-| quired five stitches’ to close. Mr. and Mrs. Chris. Bechler and’ three children motored here from Manson, Iowa, last week and wilS visit for a time with Mr. and Mrs-. F. Down, Mr. and Mrs. M. Bechler and other .relatives. Mr. Ed. Vesper, of Toronto, mo­ tored up and spent the week-end here. On Monday he was accompan­ ied back to Toronto by Miss M. Sand­ ers and Miss C. Vosper who will visit there for >s,ome time. Rev. R. A. Whattam, of tthe On­ tario Temperance Federation, occu­ pied the pulpit of the James Street United Church Sunday evening in the interests of temperance. A forum was held at the close of the service. Miss Marion Bissett was taken to Victoria Hospital, London on Friday of last week where she underwent an operation for appendicitis. A. was held on Monday evening in -the Parish Hau. The meeting opened with fthe sing­ ing of hymn 408 followed by pray­ er and ’the Lord’s Prayer in unison. Mr Wm. Davis, Vice-President took cWange -of the -opening exercises. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and the roll call­ ed. The members were then divid­ ed and seated -oni opposite sides of the Hall to represent -the sitting of the Government House for a debate-. "Resolved that .the Civilized Man ‘is Happier than the Barbarian”. Miss Marion Woods acted as Madame Speaker while Mr. E. J. Wethey and Mr. J. Morley upheld the affirmative and -Miss M. Bon'is and Mr. Wm. Davis the negaitive. The debate prov­ ed very humorous and the decision of the majority -for the negative that they would rather be Barbarians. Mr. W.
