Dayman, also with her sister, Mrs. Hawkins, of Clinton. Mr. Kennedy, of Flesherton, who recently rented from Mr. J. W. Ort- wein the Parlmer store, has arriv-* ed in town and is making arrange­ ments to open the etore with a new stock of groceries-. Miss HelenvRmith, who hasi been visiting her brother, Dr. Smith at Omer, Mich., .and who was recent­ ly operated on for appendicitis is getting along nicely and her many friends hope for her a speedy recov­ ery.Mrs. Woods of 'Otterville who spent the last month visiting here with her nephew, Mr. Lyle Cassidy reurned home on Sunday accompan­ ied by Mir. Mr-s. -Ga-es-idy, who hag been visiting at Otterville for two weeks- returned home with Mr. Cassidy on Sunday evening, Mrs. Peter Hobm, of Toronto, accompanied by her husband and two -sons, were in town laist week calling on friends, Mrs. Hobin was the youngest -daughter of the late Dr. Jas. Chesney and- was1 a former resident of Hensall. Mr-s, Hoibin’s many friends here were glad to see her again. While here they were the guests of Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Consitt. Miss Stella Robson, of Toronto, who is visiting here with her -sister Mrs. H. Arnold, met with a painful accident on -Saturday morning. Miss Robson, while going about the house slipped and fell, breaking her arm near the -shoulder. She was immed­ iately taken to the Scott Memorial Hospital by Dr. Collyer for an X-ray and to have the arm sett. Miss- Rob­ son i-s remaining at the hospital for a few days for treatment. The W. M. S .of Carmel Church held their regular monthly meeting in the school room of the church on Thursday afternoon last, with a good attendance of members. After the opening exercises- -the business part of the meeting was discussed and arrangements were made for holding a meeting of the Pres-byter- ial, here in September. The society also packed a large bale, after which the meeting closed with a. hymn and- prayer. Baseball News Hensall Wins the Group Series! One of the best ball games ever played- on the Hensall diamond was played hero on Monday afternoon in the final game between- Stratford and Hensall. A large crowd from all over this district witnessed the game. The result was 1 to 0 in favor of Hensall. Welsh, who pitched fot Hensall played a great game, hav- ihg nine 'strike outs to Ills credit, while Baird, for Stratford, put up a aplendid game, having 'Six strike outs to his credit. Both teams de­serve credit for the brand of -ball played and- it was a real thriller for the spectators. By winning this game Hensall won the group series and will play Waterloo, the winner of another group here on Thursday afternoon. On Wednesday last the Stratford team came -to Hensall for the first game b/nveen the two teams in the final series and defeated Hensall 8 to i5. On Saturday the same two teams played at Stratford, Hensail winning, 8 ,to 5. This result made the third game necessary which was played here on Monday afternoon giving Hensall the group leader­ship. CREDITON William T. England, of Calgary, Alta., was in the village on Friday renewing olfl acquaintances after an absence of seventeen years. Prof, -and Mrs. L. Gibson, -o-f ‘O. A, C.. Guelph, visited Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Eilber at -their cottage Grand Bend last Wednesday and returned to their home with their daughter Betty on Tuesday. Mr, and Mirs.„, Edmund Wuerth, of San Francisco, Calif., are visiting her brother Alfred of Crediton and his brother Edgar, of Zurich. It is twenty-seven years since he left here for the west. Many changes have taken place there and he finds it difficult to adjust business to new conditions. Mr. and. Mrs. Fred Willie, Duluth, Minn., and Mrs. Clifford Munce and two daughter, of London visited with their aunt Mrs. Albert King. Mr. and Mrs. Fred. Eilber and son Ronald returned to Detroit after spending a week with Mr. and Mrs-. A. King. Assistance Day will be observed in the United Church Sunday School next Sunday, with all assistant teachers and officers- in charge. Christian Endeavor Picnic Thirty young people of the Chris­ tian Endeavor of the Evangelical church -of Crediton motored to Springbanik Park on Monday after­ noon, August 20th for their annual picnic. For the past three years Turnbull’s Grove, Grand Bend and Stratford have been the thiree fav­ orite places. Eldon Smith, who is chairman of the recreation) depart, assisted by Alma Smith, Gord. Ra'tz and Earl Haist had charge of the program of sports, the winners Of which are as follows; Men’s- race, Lorence Wein; ladies’ race, Norma Finkbeiner; Threading needle race, Addie Gaiser, E. Haist; Slipper contest, Irene Fahner; nose boxing contest, Harold Fahner’s side -Coat buttoning race, Addie Gasier, Gordon Ratz; centipede race, Harry Hirtzel’s- side; automobile race, H. Fahner’s side. The afternoon was pleasantly spent. Many of the people ii\ the park halted a moment as they heard the song “Be Present at Our Table, Lord.” Supper was a happy half hour. Death of MrS. Mary McDspao •Mrs. Ronald Mclsaac formerly Miss Mary McEachern died Friday night at the home of her daughter Mrs. Otto Restemeye-r. She was in her 91st year and was -a native of Cape Breton', N.S., but pent most of her life- at Khiva. For a number of years she made her home with her daughter Mrs. Res'temeyer. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. O. Reste- meyer, Dashwood; Mrs. R. Arm­ strong, London; Mrs. Wm. Abell, of Detroit and Mrs. Joseph Vernon, of Dearborn, Mich. Four sons also sur­ vive, Peter, of Dashwood; Dan. of Cerditon; Angus, of Detroit ana Au­ gustus, of California. ;There were also 25 grandchildren and 20 great­ grandchildren. Requiem high mass was sung at 10 o’clock on Monday morning at Mount .Carmel Roman Catholic church by Rev. F'r. Corcor­ an. Interment took place in Mt. Carmel cemetery. With Misfe Marion Pooley in -the chair the meeting opened with singing a hymn offered by Mrs. Warren Brock with the Lord’s pray­ er in unison. The Roll was called and the minutes of the last meet­ ing read. An instrumental was given by Miss Mary Earl. Bible study on the Life of Moses was giv­ en by (Mrs. Peters. A review of this story to be given next month by Arthur Hern. A song by Ethel and. Irene Pooley, recitation by Miss Jean Morley. A hymn (Jesus Bids Us Shine. The review of Mirs. War. B-rock’s story last month by Miss Verna Jaques. The story for this month by Mrs. Brock entitled “The Doctor’s- Way.” The review of this story next month to be given by Miss Ethel Pooley; a reading by­ Miss- Margaret Hern and an instru­ mental by Miss Velma -Squire was then given. WOODHAM The Mission Circle met last Tues­ day evening at the home of Miss /Marion -Shier with Mirs. Wilbur Wynn the president in the chair. The devotional exercises were tak­ en by the president. The roll was called and a goodly number re­ sponded by a favorite verse in Scripture. Business was discussed and a hymn sung and the Bible less­ on read.
