Miss Edith Cameron has returned to her home in Whitechurch after a pleasant visit with friends here. Mrs. Roy Fl ear and children, of Toronto, have returned home after a pleasant visit with friends in town. Miss Dorothy Kyle, of London spent the week-end at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. IThos. Kyle Mr. and Mrs. Alex McMurtrie and little daughter, of Toronto, spent the week-end with the former’s mother here. Mrs. Leslie Knight has returned to her home in Kitchener after a pleas­ ant two weeks’ visit with relatives here. Mrs. M. Mrs. John Johnston and daughter Miss Margaret Johnston are spending a couple of weeks with relatives at Hyde Park. Mrs, Robt. Patterson and mother Mrs. Horton left last week for Chi­ cago where they will attend (the World’s Fair. Mrs. Bert North and daughter. Audrey are spending a few days this ( week visiting relatives on (the Thames Road. Civic Holiday passed quietly in the village with quite a number of our citizens spending the day at the different resorts. Mrs. Wes. Harvey, of London and Mrs. Thos. Workman and son 'Orville of Kippen visited with Mrs. John Murdock on Thursday. Mr. William Fee and sisters Misses Sarah and Mary Fee ‘.have returned home after a pleasant motor trip to Tobermory and Wassago Bpach. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. McEwan and daughters Dorothy, Elva and Mrs. W. Henry were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John G. Scott, of Cromai‘,ty. Dr. J. A. McTaggart and A. 'Clark won second prize in the Scotch Doubles bowling tournament in Stratford on Monday. A 'Stratford rink won the first prize. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Henry and sion Delbert, of Cass 'City, Mich., and Mrs. Louis Smith and son Russell, of De­ troit, spent a few days' this' week1 vis­ iting relatives1 in and around town. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Bengough have returned (to their home1 in Mid­ land after ia pleasant visit with their friends here. They were accompan­ ied home by Mr. Wm. Anderson, of Kippen, who.will visit them for some time. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Ro'- bert Higgins held a. re-union on Sunday at the farm of Mr. and1 Mrs Orville Beaver of the Thames Road All the members of the family were present lincluding four grandchild­ ren and a very enjoyable time was spent. The W. M. iS. of the United church held their regular* monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon with a good attendance. After tllie opening exer­ cises the devotional leaflet was' read by Miss Annie Consitt and the study taken by Mrs. McDonell, Mrs. Mc­ Queen and Miss A. Moore. The meet­ ing closed with the Mizpah Benedic­ tion. Rev. T. Wardlaw Taylor M.A., of Toronto, preached very acceptably in the Carmel Presbyterian church on Sunday morning last. Evening ser­ vices are withdrawn. At the Unit­ ed church Rev. D. H. Moyer, of Pres­ ton, occupied the pulpit in the morn­ ing and a very pleasing duet was rendered' by Mr. and Mrs. H. Phlle. In the evening Rev. Mr. Chandler of Kippen had charge of the service and a beautiful violin solo was given by Miss Greta Lammie. About fifty of the relatives of Mr and Mrs. Glen Bnoadfoot gathered at their home east of the village on Monday evening of last freek" to ex* I tend to the young couple a hearty welcome into this community. Dur-| ing the evening the young couple were presented with a purse of mon­ ey with an address read by Mrs. R. J. Paterson, and the presentation made by Miss Emma Dickson. Mr. and Mrs. Broadfoot both thanked their guests for their kindness. A dainty lunch was then served consist­ ing of sandwiches, cake, ice cream and lemonade. .One of the largest crowds to wit­ ness a baseball game in Stratford gathered at Dufferin Park on (Sat­ urday afternoon to see the game between Hensall and Stratford B’s This game was the first of the play- oif games between Hensall and Stratford and resulted in favour of Hensall 6-5. Hensall scored two runs in the. first inning; one in the 3rd; one in the 8th and two. in the 9 th inning. Stratford got two runs in the 3rd;vtwo in the 15th and-an­ other in the seventh. Tunney and Fieberg pitched for Stratford while Kens lake and Carrick pitched for Hensall. The second game of the play-off will be on the Hensall dia­ mond on Wednesday afternoon, Au­ gust 9th. There will no* doubt be a big crowd present to witness the game. Death of Charlies A. Redmond The death occurred at his home in Mornington Twp. oin Monday last of Mr. Charles Redmond, a former well-known resident of Hensall and Hay Twp. Mr. Redmond was barn in Hay Twp. 7 6 years ago* and farmed there on the Blind Line, just West of Hensall, until the family moved to Belleville 1>5 or 16 years ago*. He was a prominent member here in the Methodist Church at that time tak­ ing an active interest in all church work. After residing in Belleville a number of years Mr. ''and Mrs. Red­ mond moved to Mornington 'Twp. tc be near their daughter, Mrs. W. G Whitney. He is survived by his wife formerly, Miss Annie Rousom, three daughters, Mrs. W. G. Whitney Mornington; Mrs. Howard Harper, of Goodwood and Mrs. R. R. Pinnegar Dorchester and three sons, Rev. John A. Redmond, of Potsdam, N.Y.; and Wesley and Clifford, of Syracuse, N. Y. The funeral took1 place on Friday afternoon last. The funeral service was held in St. Paul’s United Church Milverton, interment in the Green­ wood Cemetery. ELIMVILLE Miss Lorena Johns, of Toronto, is holidaying at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. Clias. PRESENTATION A very enjoyable evening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Edwards ‘recently when a group of neighbors and friends gathered there to' honor Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith whose marriage took place recently. Card playing and "’danc­ ing were indulged in -by those pres­ ent. During the course of the ev­ ening an address was tendered Mr, and Mrs. Smith by Garfield Neil. Kenneth Hodgins and Jack Reeder presented them with a very beauti­ ful steel bed, springs and mattress. S. held their regular monthly meeting on Thursday after­ noon of last week at the home of Mrs. Melville Hern when they en­ tertained the .Sunshine Mission Band Th president had charge of the meeting at which there was a good attendance. The meeting was open­ ed by singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” The Scripture les­ son was read by Mrs. John Johns Prayer wa® offered by the pres.; a duet was sung by Mrs. Alf. Brock and Mrs. Earl Johnston; a story en­ titled "Tother and Which” was giv­ en by Mrs. R. E. Pooley: part of the program was given by 'the mission band; mouth organ selections by Gordon Johntson; a duet was sung by Marion and Ethel Pooley; a story was given by Mrs. Melville Hern, so­ lo by Marjory Earl; duet by Hazel Hern and Jean Bkoick. The Sep­ tember meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs. W. J. Brock. The meet­ ing closed with the Mizpah benedic­ tion. Sports were then held con­ ducted by Hazel and Myrtle Earl and Miss Minerva Brock. The la­ dies served lunch. Miss Rubie Brown had a sudden attack of appendicitis on Saturday evening and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, London. !She came thro’ the operation and we hope she soon recovers.
