Fruit COUNCIL MEETING The regular monthly meeting of Uhe village council was held, on Mon- -day evening with all the members ^present except Councillor Con’si'tt. 'The minutes, of the last meeting were ■read and adopted on motion of Petty •and Ortwein. Councillors Ortwein .and Petty reported on the work done •during the month repairing side walks. The reeve stated that AVm. JHaryey. -of Kippen had agreed to •draw what gravel was needed at 20 ■icents a.yard mile.: All gravel to be screened. The reeve was instructed to look after the gravelling. A com anunication was read from at Toronto ffirm making an offer for Municipal ’Insurance. This matter was discus- jsed but the reeve thought it better 5to leave it over till next year which was aggreed to. Haugh are visiting in Michigan The fowl supper put on in the Calvary Evangelical Church Shed on October 1st, from 5 to 8 p.m. was a splendid success. While the guests were enjoying a sumptuous fowl sup per the Dashwood Brass Band fur nished several numbers of bright music. After the members of the band had dined the program was put on with profitable and pleasant ef fect. The Hawaiian Quartette consisting of Gordon Suaer, Sheldon Sauer, Hy. Sauer and Billy Honck, of Niagara Falls was very much appreciated. Miss Ruby Finkbeiner, of Crediton, gave a very humorous reading and Mr. T. C. The meeting was opened by singing a hymn and Scrip ture reading followed .by prayer by Mrs. Selves. After the Roll Call “Power of the Spirit-,” the minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. Business was ' .discussed i and the report of the morning sess ion of the. Convention at' Centralia was very ably given by. 'Mrs. Wm. Etherington. Mrs. Alvin Passmore gave us a fine report of the after noon session. By request Mrs. A. Morgan favoured us with a solo and the topic on Korea was given by Miss Alice Hackney,. •: The meeting was brought to a close by repeating the Lord's prayer in unison and a social half hour was spent over the teacups . and' the dainty lunch provided by the host ess and committee’ in charge. The November meeting -is to- be held at the home of Mrs. James. Cottle. Through an error the September meeting of Thames Road W. M. S. was not reported ’but' was held at the home of Mrs.. John-Allison with a large attendance of members and visitors. It was decided that we have a bazaar, the arrangements left-'to the program committee. Tim topic on China was given by Mrs. Rhode and Mrs. Archie Morgan sang a solo accompanied by Miss Ann Allison on the piano-. Meeting was closed by prayer and lunch served. W. M. S. of Thames Church held their splendid address, her subject being a sketch of the work of early miss ionaries in Unganda, S. Africa, par ticularity the work of Mr. Alexander McKay. Session next Sunday afternoon in this church. Farmers are getting theiir fall work done in good time this. year. The corn crop is light and silo filling is not occupying as much time as it generally does. The potato crop is fair in .spite of the very dry weather and roots are of fair size on the average also.
