COURTEOUS Again it is the pleasant task of "The Tinies-Advocate to congratulate pupil of the Exeter High School mpoii winning a scholarship for Hon- Matriculation awarded by the University of Western Ontario. The Brilliant sixteen year old daughter, Margaret, -of Mr. and Mrs. R. Y. MacLaren, of Hensail, this year lias jvon $220.00 in a major award and wot only made a most distinguished .-record but has piled laurels high upon her school and teachers. There were IS awards made open to all in addition to those offered to individ ual schools. In these Miss. MacLar- #n could receive' only one although <ohe ranked as follows: first in French; .second in Latin; fifth in ^mathematics. The scholarship -g-rant- ©d was for chemistry (or physics), •mathematics (or English) and three Other papers, the options not' taken Being in parenthesis. Some idea of ■her remarkable stand is obtained when it is noted that in all Western ■Ontario, only eight schools figure in ’ "the 18 awards that is to say, the Chree London Collegiates, Windsor Oxillegiate, St. Tlromas, Strathroy .and Chatham Collegiates and Exeter High School. The only one from a IHigh -School and one of two from outside the large„ schools of cities, •sthe record is orie to be proud of, in- ♦d-eed. He was the youngest son of the late Jonas Sim mons, He bravely enlisted in the Great War and was one of the 161st. He had not enjoyed very good health since lie was wounded in France but he always was cheerful and bright'. His friends had everything done for him that could be done'; several opera tions and treatments by the best of surgical physicians but1 all was of no avail’. It only piolonged his life for a time. A few years ago he was married to Miss Alda Dinsdale, se cond daughter of the late John Dins dale.
