and Monday followed by a heavy fall

disagreeable here the last few days.

Mr. and ,errs. P. F. Jackson mov-
ed their household effects to Strat-
ford where they intend making their
home. They have conducted a
grocery store here for some years
but have given it up and moved to
Stratford,.
A large number of children were
at the statical on Saturday morning
to welcome Santa Claus as he went
through to London on the morning
train. Santa carne out on the back
platform and distributed gifts of
-•candy and received donations of
money from some of the chiedren
for the Santa Clans fund in Lon-
don.
The Young People of the United
Church held their meeting on Mon-
day evening last with a fair attend-
ance. The meeting was opened by
singing hymn 91 after which Mr.
Sinclair led in prayer. The minutes
of the last meeting were read and
adopted/Hymn 106 was then sung
after which the topic was given by
Miss Mildred Smillie followed by a
piano solo by Miss Florence Mc-
Donald. A hymn was then sung and
/the meeting closed with prayer.
The Young People • of the Carmel
Presbyterian church held tlieii•
meeting on Monday evening with
the •president Miss Ruby McLaren
in the chair. The meeting was
opened. by singing hymn 433 fol-
lowed by the Lord's prayer in uni-
son. The Scripture Lesson was
then read by Miss Grace Dick after
which hymn 742 was sung. The
minutes of the last meeting were
read and the roll call answered. The
business followed. A debate will• be
held in Cavell Presbyterian chureli
Exeter on Tuesday, December 3rd.

were towed to Exeter and luckily
no one was seriously injured.

The November meeting of the W.
111. S. was held at the home of Mrs.
Edgar Allen. Thursday, the first
week of November, Mrs. Jas. Hill
presiding. The meeting opened by
singing •Isynin 127 and prayer by
the president. The roll call for the
day being Thanksgiving, was re-
sponded to by a good attendance,
The portion of study book was takeiz
by Mrs. Ken. McKellar and Mrs. W.
McLaren. Mrs. D. McGill read a
very fine paper on Thanksgiving ta-
ken,,from the Exchange after which
a fine duett was given by Mrs. S. A.
Miller and Mrs. Duncan lrcKellar.

business part of our work Our
next sheeting will be held at the
home of Mrs. Jas. Scott in Decem-
ber which vvi1 be the annual, busi-
ness meeting. The meeting closed
by singing hymn 270 and prayer by
Mrs. S. A. Miller and Lord's Prayer
in unison.

of Stratford, visited with friends in
the village over Sunday:
The fowl supper Held in the
church on Tuesday evening of last
week wee a decided success,. it be-
ing a larger attendance than at any
previous. supper held here. The
weather and roads were ideal. The
program was put on by, Listowel
talent and was certainly very much
appreciated being of a high class
order. Mr. T. L. Hamilton, soloist,
Mr. Hall and daughter, violin and
piano duetts; Dr. Spence, soloist;
Mrs. Hamilton,•-asoloist. The pro-
gram was interspersed With speech-
es from 'a few of the neighboring
ministers. Mr. Elder acted as
chairman, in his usual genial man-
ner., •

The thank -offering meeting of the
W. M. S. was held at the home of
Mrs. John Hodgson on Thursday af-
ternoon, November 4th. There was
a splendid .attendance there being
26 members and 4 visitors present,
The president, Mrs. Frank Gunning
was in charge of the meeting which
opened with a song service.'Mrs.
Harvey Squire read the 103rd Nairn
The responsive service, "The Bless-
ing of Peace" was used. The De-
votional Leaflet "Who is Thy Neigh-
bor?" was read by Mrs, Geo. Arksey.
Mrs. (Rev.) Irwin .offering prayer.
During the business part -of the
meeting Mrs. brans. Squire reported
16 subscriptions to the Missionary
Monthly; a good offering of .fruit
was received; the \V.M.S. will have
charge of the service on Stuiday, De-
cember 1st with the pastor Rev. Mr.
Irwin preaching a speeial missionary

was given by the treasurer, sirs.

.Mrs. Love, of Exeter, returned to
her home last Thursday after be-
ing in attendance on Mrs. Heywood
Sr. for abort ten days. Mrs. Hey-
wood had the misfortune to dislo-
cate her shoulder about two weeks
ago and has made a splendid re-
covery for a lady of her advanced
years.
Ten Members. of the Baby Band
and their mothers were pleasantly
entertained in the Church • last Wed-
nesday afternoon. Mrs. George
Hunter, supt. pt. of the Band. was in
charge. Eleven ladies. were pres-
ent and refreshments. were served to
all.
•Miss Dotty White is recovering
from an attack of tonsilitis.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Hodgert and
fancily from near •Seaforth, were
visitors at Mr, Bruce Cooper's, last
Sunday.
Mr. Joshua Johns, who has been
in London Hospital for nearly two
weeks receiving treatment for blood
poisoning, n his arm, was able to
return home last Saturday and is
much improved.

While Mr. and Mrs. James Day-
men, of Kippen, were returning tq
their home from a visit with reja-
tivee near Granton last Monday their
horse became frightened when they
met the Johns' Syndicate tractor,
north of Ellniville, the horse broke
away from the buggy throwing ?Jr.
and airs. Dayntan out on the road-
side,he horse was caught a short
distance up the read and after some
repairing to the outfit Mr. and Mrs.
Dayman were able to proceed on
their journey somewhat bruised and
shaken up but not seriously injured
as 'night have been the case.

Calvary Evangelical church of Dash-
wood. held their regular monthly
meeting in the basement of the
church. After the devotional exer-
cises the president took the chair
and proceeded with the business part
of the meeting. The convenors of
the different committees gave very
interesting reports. There was a
motion made and .carried that the
Lathes' Aid hold a bazaar in the
basement of the church on the ev-
ening of Friday, November 29th be-
ginning at 7.30 p.m. It was also
decided to snake a quilt for -the mis-
sionary. box. The meeting was ad-
journed.

CLARK—DAVIS NUPTIALS
A quiet but, pretty wedding took
place at the rectory of the Angli-
can church at Kirkton on Wednes-
day, November 20th, at 9 a.m. when
Miss Angeline Maud (Lena) Davis,
daughter of Mrs. .Wm. Davis, of
Biddulph, was united in marriage
to lir. Warren Clark, of Welland,
by Rev R. M. P. Bulteel. The at-
tendants were Miss Marion MacDon-
ald and lir. •Maurice MacDonald,
neice and nephew of the bride. The
bride was most becomingly dressed
in a wedding gown of reindeer
brown satin trimmed with sand
'crepe and'Iace medallions With slip-
pers and hose to match. Her tra-
velling dress was of brown trans-
parent velvet, with brown hat, coat,
slippers and gloves. lrr. and. Mrs.
Clark left on a wedding trip to Sar-
nia and Detroit and following their
return will leave for Welland for
their future hone. For several
years Miss ,Davis was the popular
school teacher at Eden and the best
wishes of many friends will be ex-
tended to the happy couple for their
future welfare.
About 75 members of St. Patrick's
Anglican church, Saintsbury, gath-
ered at the home of Mrs, 'William
Davis on Friday evening of last week
in honor of her daugter, Miss Lena
Davis, bride -elect. Miss Davis, who
has been vary popular in the church
and community life as the address-
es • which follow will testify, was
made the recipient of some. very
handsome gifts. • The congregation
of the church presented Miss Davis
with a cedar chest, Rev. Mr, Bul-
teel read the address and the ward-
ens of the church made tate presen-
tations. The Dramatic Club pres-
ented her with a silver tea service.
'Mrs. Robt. Hunter read the address
and Miss Jean Atkinson made the.
presentation. The Women's Auxil-
iary made her the recipient of a
silver bread tray, the address being
read by Mrs. Jos. Turner and the
presentation by Mrs. Henry Hod-
gins. Rev. Mr. Bulteel spoke in
warm tribute of the splendid char-
acter, fine service rendered by Miss
Davis and Miss Davis in her please
