Paterson is spending a ‘ couple of weeks visiting her brother in London before returning home in Calgary. A concert will be put on Mission Band of the Hensail church on Friday evening to her of last The last the Council. Meeting' The regular monthly meeting the village council was held on. Mon day evening with all the members present. The minutes of the meeting were read and adopted. Reeve reported that all of the year's taxes were paid up with exception of some five dollars. Coun cillor Ortwein gave a report of the work of the street committee for the month. The date for holding the Court of Revision was changed from the 20th to the 27th of May. Mr. Nelson Blatchl’ord was appointed weed inspector for the year. On motion of Petty and Ortwein a sign will be put up on the west side of the town and also one at the Lon don Road stating the speed limit for driving through the town, 20xmiles an hour and 10 miles at the inter sections. The council intends to enforce this law. The clerk was in structed to prepare a by-law prohib iting the firing of fire-crackers ■ on Main Street and also stopping their sale in the village. The by-law will be passed immediately and Constable Hudson was instructed to take ac tion against any offender to this by law. The Reeve and Treasurer were given authority to borrow money and pay to the Township of Hay the amount due to them on the’Black Creek Drain. A number of accounts were presented and ordered paid. Reeve asked the Council to make an inspection of the streets some time before the end of Mav to lay out the work Dor the summer. Coun cillor Petty brought up the matter of the Keys Drain and it is very like ly is will also be constructed this summer. The Council adjourned to meet again at the call of the Reeve. CENTRALIA A large number of friends of Centralia and the surrounding com munity gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Essery on Monday evening last to express their good wishes and esteem previous io their departure for their new home in London. A most enjoyable evening was spent, the principal feature be ing the presentation to Mr. Essery of a gold headed engraved cane and fountain pen and to; Mrs. Essery a silver flower vase from the munity and an inlaid candy jar the Ladies’ Aid. The regular monthly meeting of Centralia W.M.S. was held in the basement of the church on Tuesday, May the 7th. Mrs. Bowden and Circle three led in the devotional ex ercises, hymn 146 was used in open ing after which Mrs. Bowden led in prayer. The scripture lesson was found in the 91 Psalm read by MTs,- Baynliam after which another hymn was sung. The Sth chapter of the Study Book was taken by Mrs. A. Mitchell; Mrs. Penwarden sang- a solo; Mrs. Brooks gave <the report of the W.M.S. Convention held in Exeter; after which another hymn was sung. The presentation of a Life Membership Certificate was given to Mrs. G. Essery, who is. mov ing away. Mrs. Brooks read the ad dress and Mrs. J. Essery making the presentation. The W.M.S. of the United church met on Thursday afternoon and held their meeting. Mrs. McDonell the president presided. The meeting opened with the Doxology followed by the Lord’s prayer in unison. The minutes were read by Mrs. Ed. Mc Queen after which the roll call was read. The Study Book was taken by Mrs. G. Hobkirk and the meetlug closed with prayer. “Sonny-Jane” Well Presented To Large Audience Despite the disagreeable weather a full house was present to - enjoy the three-act’ comedy “Sonny-Jane” presented by the United church Y. P. L. in the Town Hall on Thursday evening last. Richardson last week purchased the Hogarth fifty acres across the road from them. Mr. William Cooper, who was op erated on for appendicitis in Sea forth Hospital a while ago was. able to return home. We are pleased to know that he has got along so well. Mr. Ted Taylor, of Toronto, was visiting -over the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tay lor. Mr. and Mrs. George T. Wren and Agnes were at St. Marys visiting Mrs. Wren’s sister. Mr. William Slavin has erected a nice new garage for his car. - The W.M.S. will hold a birthday party in the school room of the- church on Tuesday .'afternoon, May 14th at 2 o’clock. It being four years- organized and was -organized by Mrs. V. Mollard, of Exeter. There is a good program being provided, several members from the Elimville Auxiliary will be present and take part. Mrs. Chas. Johns as reader, and others will render musical num bers, besides numbers by our own members. Lunch will be served at the close of the meeting. The meeting was opened by repeating our Watchword after which we sang hymn 126. The Scripture Lesson, Phil. 2nd chapter 1-21 verses was read by Mrs. J. Johns. A devotional leaflet was read by Mrs. Wellington Brock; Mrs. W. Hern and Mrs. I-I. Kyle led in prayer followed with the Lord’s Prayer in unison, The mem bers answered the roll call with a verse of scripture. We decided to1 have our annual M'sisonary tea the first part of June, hymn 180 was sung. A reading entitled “A Mis sionary Message to a Moving Pictu-re Age” by Rev. E. Stanley Jones, D.D. was given. After the sermon in the morning there will be a baptismal ceremony; at least sev en infants wilf^be brought to the al ter to receive this sacred rite of the church. Everybody turn out and witness this scene. There will also be a special program in connection with the Sunday School under the direction 'of Miss Addileeh Gaiser who is convenor of that committee.
