this project 'to be undertaken

list of committees read.

gave an interesting paper on

ed two- accordion numbers,
Mrs. Bent Garrett introduced
the guest speaker, Mrs. Donald-
son, Seaforth...
For 25 years Mr. and Mrs,
Donaldson have been on the
Mission Field in Chile, South
America. For some years their
work was among the Indians
of Chile, and they travelled by
horseback and caravan, The
caravan was a covered boarded
wagon pulled by bullocks. It
housed a stove, two beds, a
table and chairs.
The next .elLertrict to be called
on would supply a man and a
team of bullocks to bring the
caravan to his district, while
the missionaries rode behind on
horseback. over the very dusty
roads in summer and mud at
other times of the year.
Mrs. Donaldson brought with
her a typical Chilean Indian
costume which Mrs, Garrett
modelled. This consisted of an
all wool black shawl draped

Hugh Bremner of CFPI• Rad-
io and TV was the guest speak-
er at the ,cornmencement ex-
ereises. at .CPCI on Friday
nights bringing a talk of mod-
ern problems to an. evening of
tradition,
"The present methods of the
Western world are not enough
for victory," said Mr. Weimer..
"Communism may be ruthless,
but it is efficient, In 16 years
since the last war they have
come to challenge the .entire
world, They spend twice as
much money for education as
the United States of America."
Mr. Bremner went on, "They
are graduating 'three times the
number of engineers, and each
with almost double classroom
training .than those in the Unit-
ed States. There are 25 percent
more doctors graduating in
Russia,
"Also, Russia is educating
thousands of negroes from Af-
rica, at the expense of Russian
people. Canada could play a
great role 'in the battle for
men's minds 'by making educa-
tion opportunities here for peo-
ple of ASia and Africa.
"The cost of one fighter
plane would give one year uni-
versity training to 1,000 Afric-
ans to-day," said the speaker,
He attacked the idea which
Western nations appear to have
that other nations cannot be-
come civilized without all of
the trappings of the Western
world. "And yet," said Mr.
Bremner, "haw many of us
actually live up to the labels
under which the Western world
is considered to live: freedom
of enterprise, freedom from
racial discrimination, etc.
"An individual, 'like a democ-
racy cannot rest on its laurels.
over the shoulders, a long
handwoven brightly coloured
belt, white tailored type blouse
with large blue silk handker-
chief for the head. A silver
band went around the head
over the handkerchief, along
with other ornaments pinned
on the front of the shawl.
In a humorous manner Mrs.
Donaldson described the home
life of the Chilean Indians and
stated that one thought she
wanted her listeners to remem-
ber was "that missionaries
need your prayers and 'interest
just as much as money." She
closed with the Lord's Prayer
in Spanish. Members of group
3 served a delicious lunch.
Our country must depend upon
the individual to expand and
develop the notion," ended Mr.
Bremner.
