(Ponoka News and Advertiser)
This week we pay tribute to
Dr. Melvin Graham, who has
been nominated by his colleag-
ues in the Alberta Division for
senior membership in the Can-
adian Medical Association,
Melvin Graham was' born at
Brucefield, Ontario on October
16, 1876 and received his early
education at SS 10 Stanley and
at Clinton. After teaching sch-
ool for four years in Ontario
and Vancouver Island he ent-
ered the University of Toronto
to study medicine. In 190 he
received his M.D.
Following graduation he pr-
acticed for four years in Alix,
Alberta. Then in 1911 he went
to London, England and took
a year of post graduate train-
ing. He returned to Alberta
and resumed general practice
at Panoka, where he has re-
mained since. He was medical
health officer at Ponoka for 40
'oars and was coroner for Al-
berta for 50 years. He did
outstanding service among the
early settlers in the horse and
buggy days.
Dr. Graham has one dlaugh-
er and two sons, one of whom
is a practicing physician,

(13y JACK C..DJETRIC.H)
On October 7, there were two
conventions in London, one for
stamp collectors and one for
coin collectors. I made a point
of going to both of them and
I must say the activity at the
coin convention was far great-
er. .
The displays put on by var-
ious members of the London
Club were very impressive, and
many of the novices and non -
collectors who dropped in to
see them were no doubt im-
pressed by the beautiful coins,
which were in excellent condi-
tion considering that some of
them were more than two
thousand years old.
I had the good fortune of
picking up a few choice un-
circulated coins including the
1895, 1903, 1914, 1917 large
pennies and also a 1937 dime in
uncirculated condition, The
1937 dime had the date struck
very poorly and due to circula-
tion it wore down so easily that
after a while it looked like a
coin that someone forgot to
put the date an.
If you ever find a dime with-
out a date, you can be quite
sure that it is a 1937 dime. Due
to this poorly struck date and
even though there were 2,499,-
138 minted it is becoming in-
creasingly difficult to find one
with a good date. For any
1937 dime with a good date,
I will pay seventy-five cents or
more.
Many people have asked to
see my collection, so I dis-
cussed it with Mr. McEwan
and he has allowed me some
space in 'the window of his
book store at Clinton. Each
week, I will put in a few coins
and eventually you will see the
best part of my collection.
On display this week will be
a United States Proof Set; a
Canadian Proof -Like Set; Can-
ada's First Silver Dollar; Can-
ada's First Silver Dollar after
WorId War II; Three different
Canadian Shinplasters; a large
size Canadian One Dollar 13111;
a smaller size Canadian One
Dollar Bill.
That's all for this week.
