Clinton News-Record, 1961-07-27, Page 5The cooperation of five high school districts
in Huron County was made official last Thursday
night, when chairmen and secretaries of each board
met in Clinton District Collegiate Institute to sign
the contract agreements. Each signed five copies,
and affixed the official seal of his board,
Attending were: from Exeter,
Larry Snider, chairman and
Eugene Howey, secretary; from
Seeforth, Frank Sills, chairman
• and W. E. Southgate, secretary;
from .Goelerieh„ William Craig,
Auburn, chairman, ('WeroterY
lid. Jessup was 'absent), and
from Clinton, Irvine Tebbutt,
RR 2, Clinton, ehairman, and
Harold C, Lawson, secretary;
John Levis, vice-chairman, wit -
messed the signatures.
This moves the initial plan-
Pirg for the new vocational
school one more step along the
way, The signing followed the
receipt of tentative approval
from the Department of Educe-
dim for the addition as plan-
ned.
From now on the next step
is for each of the co-operating
boards to name two representa-
tives to the vocational advisory
committee (Clinton names
three) making up a nine-mem,
ber committee. In each case, a
board member is to be named,
plus :another member from in-
dustry (either an employer or
an employee).
Then the Clinton board meets
and officially appoints those
recommended to act on the ad-
visory committee. So far Exeter
is the only board to make its
recommendations: A. - Garnet
Hicks, Usborne Township farm-
er, .and James Taylor, Hensall,
resident sales manager of
General Coach Works, of
Canada Ltd.
Though . Mr. Hicks is secre-
tary of Ushcame Public School
area board 'and Mr. Taylor has
lie school heard for five years,
it is not expected, nor intended
that connection with public
school boards should be a.
requisite of membership OP the
vocational advisory correnittee.
Duties of the advisory corn-
Milttee through the next year,
are expected to include plan-
ning for the various courses to
be offered in :the POW school,
The Clinton District Collegiate
Institute board will be essential-
ly responsible for 'the construe-
tign of the 'new building, and
later on for the eperation of
it, but on recommendation of
the advisory committee,
Neither Seeforth, Clinton nor
Goderich boards have made

Car Prices To
Go Up, Says
Huron Car King
A Huron County car dealer
this week predicted new car
prices will go up • three per-
cent when the 1962 models; are
introduced this fall. This is in
addition? to the three percent
sales tax which will come into
effect in September.
"We haven't received' official
-word yet," said Jack Pearson,
Zurich, who dubs himself the
Car King, "hut I have it on the
best 'authority that new cars
will be up in price."
Pearson stated he learned
about the increase when he en-
quired of the manufacturer re-
gelding -a quantity purchase of
1962 models for a local firm.
Another car dealer indicated
he hadn't received word of the
increase but, "I wouldn't be
surprised — there have been
some rumours,"
A district farm equipment
dealer revealed this week
prices will go up three percent
on U.S.-nianufactured tractors
and implements because of the
drop in value of the Canadian
dollar.

about the 3% Provincial Sales Tax
Actually, it need not cost
a small businessman much money
Even if you decide you need a new
cash register, you can get a good
one for $279, It will show separate
totals, one for the tax, and one for
the actual sale of goods. If you
don't do more than $1,000 worth of
business in one day, then this
machine is a good one to buy.
YOU MAY NOT NEED
a new CASH REGISTER !
Confidentially, we've been operating the News-
Record business quite easily ever since the
Dominion government first began levying an
8% sales tax, more than a dozen years ago.
(Then it was raised to 10% and later to 11%.)
The mechanics of adding the tax and charging
for it have never indicated to us the need for
a cash register. We probably won't need one
even now, when an additional 3% must be
added.
BUT IF you feel you need a
cash register then,
SEE US BEFORE YOU BUY !
See us, before you spend too much money
Sure, the Provincial Government is going to
pay you for collecting their money, but it won't
figure out to very much. For instance, if you
operate a store doing $50,000 worth of taxable
business in a year, then you will collect $1,500
sales tax for Queen's Park. For that job, you
may receive 4%, or 460.00. That $60 won't
go far toward buying a new cash register.
However, we feel confident that the
Ontario government is interested in
easing the move into collecting sales
tax as much as possible. There will
be experts assigned to give you help
and information about keeping
records and reporting the tax,
It's going to be done, so we might as well
co-operate. It may be that you Will need to
increase the number of records you keep. May-
be you'll need some invoices, statements, or
sales sheets printed, We'll be glad to help you,
as soon as you know what you will require.
OUR PRINTING SHOP will be
a busy place in August, for
there's a week of holidays to
work in there someplace, and
as we've said before,
SEPTEMBER COMETH
We'll try to help you be ready
