fluid Milk Men
Asked to Sign
'Petition for Vote
Ontario's fluid 'milk shippers
will be 'faced with a petition
to sign this week as the On
tario Whole Milk Producers
League stakes a major step in
Initiating a marketing plan for
fltdd. milk. The petition will.
ask for a plebiscite to be held
some time in the future .on
a marketing plan, If 15 per-,
cent of the 12,000-odd fluid
milk producers sign the peti-
tion, it will be presented to the
Ontario Milk Industry Board.
"We are moving ahead with
our plans as quiekly as pos-
sible," says W. R. Peters; presi-
dent of the League. "At our
present directors meeting, the
League officials, were inStract-
ed to seek the status of a mar-
keting board, and to develop a
marketing plan for fluid milk,
The petition, is the firSt step."
The League directors also
made the decision to .co-operate
to the utmost with the other
three milk producer groups to

keting board 'and plan is eStal).
The Whole Milk Producers
League was, formed almost 30
years ago to negotiate prices
and teens and conditions of sale
of fluid milk on behalf of its
producer members, However It
is not a marketing board oper-
ating limier the Milk Industry
Act, The •other three prOdUcer
groups . , the cheese Pro-
ducers, concentrated milk pro-
ducers and the cream Produc-
ers. . all have marketing
boards. With an overall mar,
keting plan, it is desirable that
the different groups each have
marketing boards, in order that
they be on equal legal footing,
A marketing plan for fluid
milk is now being drafted. It
will be placed before producers
if the petition is successful,
Meetings of producers will be
held 'throughout the province
to discuss the plan in detail, be-
fore a vote is beld on the plan.
League officials hope that the
Petition will be completed by
mid-August. It asks simply
that die producers "be given
the opportunity to vote on a
plan to become a marketing
board for the marketing of
milk produced by fluid milk
producers."
