Bantams Take
Opening Game
From Goderich
Clinton Bantam baseball
team are away to a good start
again this year. On Friday
night they won the opening
gauze of the season in Gode-
rich 23-3.
Clare Magee pitched perfect
ball for tile first three innings,
facing only nine batters, strik-
ing out five. Then lef6dander
Brad Dutat took over; giving
up five hits and striking out
six in the remaining four in-
nings. Jim Livermore did the
catching.
Clinton's hittiinrg was equally
as good as the pitching. Larry
Pearson, centre field, led the
way with five hints including
a double. Laurie Calquhoun,
shortstop, had three singles and
a triple. Magee -also had a per-
fect night at bat, collecting
three singles. Phial White, play-
ing ,first, had three singles.
John Cooper, who played sec-
ond, got a triple and a single,
and Bob Pearson, right field,
had a single and double. Get-
ting two singles each were Bob
Batkin, third baseman; Barry
Glazier, left fielder and Brad
Dutot. Only Bill. Thompson
who played three innings • in.

Golf continues to be a most
papular summer sport in this
area. According to owner -maid -
ager Fred Hulls, of the Bay-
field -Clinton Golf Course, lash
weekend was the busiest even

juvenile baseball team. The
players wore the uniforms for
the first time last night. Your

Holmesville Win
On Siarturday night before the
largest crowd of the season the
Varna softball team went down
to defeat at the handy of
golmesvillle by a score of 13
to 3, in a Huron Central Soft-
ball League game.
Holmesville took a five run
lead early in the game. Then
in the (third, .a three rim homer
by Barry Taylor put Varna
back in the game. When Tom
Consitt followed with a • triple,
Bill Harris came in to "pi{tali
for Holmesville and retired the
next three nnen. The rest of
the way he allowed, only three
men to get on base while his
teams mates added to their
leacl.
When the Bayfield umpires
failed to show up, Bert Clif-
ford, O.nin Dowson and Mel
Webster took over and handled
the game.
Varna goes to Auburn for a
game on Thursday, June 22
and plays Bayfield on their own
field on Saturday, June 24,
The new ball park which
was leveled last fall and work-
ed and seeded this spring has
greened up nicely and is a real
credit to the. community. The
team hopes to build some seats
for the tans as soon as money
is available.

The Pirates won• their sec-
ond game in the Kinsmen Squ-
irt Baseball League last Sat-
urday morning as they beat
the RCAF Station team 8 to 4.

team. Both pitchers, David
Cooper of the Pirates and bon
Fansell of the camp team play-
ed very well both on the mound
and at bait, gethting two hit's
