On Friday night they won the opening gauze of the season in Gode- rich 23-3. Clare Magee pitched perfect ball for tile first three innings, facing only nine batters, strik- ing out five. Then lef6dander Brad Dutat took over; giving up five hits and striking out six in the remaining four in- nings. Jim Livermore did the catching. Clinton's hittiinrg was equally as good as the pitching. Larry Pearson, centre field, led the way with five hints including a double. Laurie Calquhoun, shortstop, had three singles and a triple. Magee -also had a per- fect night at bat, collecting three singles. Phial White, play- ing ,first, had three singles. John Cooper, who played sec- ond, got a triple and a single, and Bob Pearson, right field, had a single and double. The players wore the uniforms for the first time last night. Varna goes to Auburn for a game on Thursday, June 22 and plays Bayfield on their own field on Saturday, June 24, The new ball park which was leveled last fall and work- ed and seeded this spring has greened up nicely and is a real credit to the. community. The team hopes to build some seats for the tans as soon as money is available.
