McEwan' Clinton Ontario All Clinton Hockey Teams Eliminated (By A, L, Colquhoun) Clinton's three minor hockey teams were all eliminated from further competition within a week's time. First it was the Kinsmen Peewees who were put out by Walkerton in their bid for the WOAA Peewee "B" championship a week ago Monday. But there is still a bright spot here, as the Peewees have been accepted es a "C" team m the Young Canada Hockey' Tournament at Goderich during Easter week. Followers of the juveniles and Midgets should not feel too downhearted as both were eliminated by better teams in the first round of Ontario Minor Hockey Association play- downs, Both had won WOAA "B" championships in their respective classes, The Legion-sponsored Juveniles hold quite an impressive record of only two losses in 25 games played this season. The two losses were the final two games with St. Marys. The team had two tie games during the league schedule and a play-off tie with Palmerston. Although they lost a few games in league play, the parent-sponsored Midget team, coached by John Hartley and Councillor Norman Livermore, had a good record this season. They were eliminated by a superior team from Blen- heim in the first OMHA round. By winning WOAA championships the Juveniles and Midgets are still the best teams in their class covering a wide portion of Western Ontario served by the WOAA. I'm sure the players and management of both teams will go along with me in hoping both St. Marys and Blenheim win Ontario ehampeenships in their respective series. MUCH STRONGER TEAM Blenheim Wins Two Straight To Eliminate Clinton Midgets BLENHEIM 11 - CLINTON 4 First Game - Wed., March 8 Mickey Gray with four goals led Blenheim in the first game of OMHA Midget "B" play- downs here last Wednesday. Bl- enheim led 4-1 at the end of the first period, 6-1 at the end of the second and added five more in the third period to win easily 11-4. Bev. Harland scored twice, and the other five goals were scored by five different forwards. Clinton's best scorer was Laurie Colquhoun with two last period goals. Other Clinton scorers were John Cooper with one goal and one assist, and Bob Livermore, with one goal; Borden McRae drew two assists both on Coiquhoun's goals. Oth- ers drawing assists were Bruce Cooper, Don Colquhoun and Craig Cox. Referees Lou Heinbuck and Bill Gateriby, of Mitchell hand- ed out only four penalties to each team in the cleanly played game. BLENHEIM 15 - CLINTON 3 Second Game - Sat., March 11 Back in Blenheim on Satur- day night it was Gray again who spearheaded his team's 15-3 win over Clinton. He scored six goals, Bob Livermore was Clinton's top scorer with two goals, KINSMEN PEEWEES FLAY LAMBETH AT GODERICH Clinton Kinsmen have been informed that their Peewee "C" hockey team play Lambeth at 8.30 in the morning on Monday, April 3 in the first game of the Goderich Lions Young Canada Week Tournament. Deputy Reeve Morgan 3. Ag- new and Reeve W. J. Forbes carried on a running feud th- roughout the meeting. Mr, Ag- new advised all farmers to have a farm pond. Mr. Forbes re- torted that "you might always be able to find a pocket for water in a pool table, but not always on a farm." Mr. Agnew said, "I'm awfully glad to see you rural reeves taking care of the money of your municipalities, You're not so keen with caring for county money." Reeve Forbes retorted, "You're not so keen up there either." Mr. Agnew suggested, "you fellows want something for nothing." Mr. Forbes, "no we don't." A number of suggestions were raised. Reeve Coleman hoped to see the rate worked out on the basis of area cover- ed in each township. Councillor Ernie Talbot suggested operat- ing on the basis of any con- tractor with equipmeet—paid for hours worked when called. Reeve Coleman suggested of- fering the Bruce-field equipment on a "mutual aid" basis and get protection similar to the ex- change method of Clinton with other towns. The town council retired wh- ile the rural ones Conferred. In a few minutes town council de- cided to reduce' the suggested rate by $50 a year (to $200) to each council. The mayor presented this proposal. After several more minutes the township councils called their hosts back to the room and spokesman, Reeve Ivan Forsyth (county warden) offer- ed $150 a year, The meeting adjourned as Mayor Miller indicated that this WoUld not be satisfactory, At Monday's cottricil Meeting a Motion Was passed that Word would be sent to each of the rural councils stating that the rate is $200 a year with 110 Change in hourly rates Kinsmen Squirt Hockey Playoffs The semi-finals in the Kins- men, Squirt Hockey League be- gin on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock when the Canadiens play the Maple Leafs; then at 10.30 the Bruins vs. Rangers in the other semi-final, Next Sat- urday, March 25, will be the finals. Other councillors said they got good reception from Wing- ham. Councillor Bridle commented that Wingham was a strictly rural station, and that another one on a slightly different tr- ack would be favourably re- ceived. He said there was no criticism concerning the stat- ions existing at present. Mrs. C. Trutt, reporter at the meeting for dai y press and for CKNX, defended' the station as giving good coverage to Cl- inton. "They've leaned over backwards to serve this area. They have given hundreds of hours free time to the town." Councillor N. Livermore com- mented that lit seemed "the more stations there are, the poorer reception on radio you get. It's very difficult to get one station separate from the others." The News-Record reporter commented that she could see Jittle basis upon which the council could support the in- stallation of a radio station in Goderich."If it were being pl- anned for Clinton," she said, "it would be understandable." Councillor W. C. Newcombe said that he had known Mr. Beatty for yeare. The station planned would be much strong- er than the one now in opera- tion at Oakville. "It would have a high wattage at night to cov- er the entire county. He is a Goderich boy, and I would fig- ure on favouring home talent where it is possible," Councillor Rumball noted that only two wavelengths were available, and if a county of Huron man could obtain the license for one of them it would be a good thing. Mr, Newcombe stated that "Wickham Station has done as lot for me, and I'm grateful to them for it." The News-Record reporter stated that the paper did not feel particularly hostile to an- other advertisoing media Oper- ating in the area, although Weald certainly mean coMpe- titian for available advertising dollars, however, she noted that it was expected that the sta- tion at CKNX WOuld lodge a brief with the Board of 13roadi- cast Governors concerning the proposed etatioh, and that it was possible that the weekly publishers in Huron would con- sider doing the sattie thing, Clinton Lions Arena Schedule Last Chance for Skating Arena Closes Sunday, March 26 Thursday, March 16- 4.00-5,00 p.m.—LIONS FREE SKATING—P.S.
