Charles Mann, 59, of conces-
sion 1, Hallett Township, died
suddenly Monday, March 13, at
his home. Be had been in ell
health for some time,
Born in Hallett Township, a
son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Moses loon, he lived in that
area all his life, where he fam-
ed, Nis wife died several years
ago.
Surviving is one sister, Mrs,
Pearl McFarlane of Goderich
Township.
Service was held. Wednesday
afternoon from the Ball and
Mutch Funeral Horne, Clinton,
by the Rev, Grant Mills of On-
tario Street United Church, and
burial was in Clinton Cemetery.

Plans Sink For
New Lodge Hall
Miss Clara Harrison was
hostess on Saturday evening,
March 11 at the Past Mistress-
es Club of the LOB.A. meeting
which was held in the Lodge
rooms.
A 4-burner gas stove has been
bought by the PM Club and
with the sink soon to be in-
stalled in the kitchen, work of
serving meals and lunches will
be more pleasant.
Progressive euchre followed
with 16 tables. playing, Win-
ners were ladies first, Mrs.
Tom Leppington, lone hands,
Mrs. Wilfred Glazier, low, Miss
Betty Sjaarda; men's high,
Mr. White, lone hands, Tom O'-
Connell, low Clifford Epps.
A delicious lunch was served
in the basement by the Mem-
bers of the club. The presi-
dent thanked one and all for
making this' evening a splendid
success.

among memories of her Clinton
friends.

The Clinton Women's Insti-
tute will meet on Thursday,
March 23 in the agricultural
office board room at 2.30 p,m.
Roll call will be answered by
"Sing, say or pay five cents."
Election of officers will be held.
Mrs. Shepherd and Mrs. Manag-
han are in charge of the pro-
gram. Hostesses will be Mrs.
F. Tyndall, Mrs. V. Habgood,

Legion Auxiliary
Lays Plans For
Dance and Bowling
Twenty-nine ladies attended
the meeting of the Ladies Aux-
iliary to Clinton Branch 140,
Royal Canadian Legion on
Monday night in the Legion
Memorial Hall, Kirk Street.
Prior to the meeting the lad-
ies conducted a service at the
Ball and Mutch funeral home
for the late Mrs. D. J. Lane.
Mrs Elizabeth Fagen was in-
itiated into the' Auxiliary. Fin-
al arrangements were made for
the March 17 dance in the hall.
This is a major event in the
year, the only dance the Aux-
iliary holds.
Some food labels were turn-
ed in for the banquet cart the
Auxiliary is saving for.
Two bowling tournaments
are coming up: a mixed tour-
ney at Kincardine on April 8,
and a ladies tourney at Walk-
erton on April 19-20, 'The Aux-
iliary plans to send one team
to Kincardine and four teams
to Walkerton.

Chambers announced four ban-
quets scheduled for April.
Mrs, Francis Porter's name
was drawn for the monthly
prize, but sine?. she was not
present, next month's draw will
be for $4.00. Two films on

Mrs. Holland's group took
charge for the Lenten season
program. Scripture lessons giv-
en by Mrs. G. Manning were:
"Jesus in the mountain and in
the garden for meditation, "We
too, can go to nature to medi-
tate."
Mrs. George Beattie led in
prayer. The group sang, "In
the Garden". Mrs, N. Holland
took the study on Africa, giv-
ing a very interesting and in-
structive talk on the work of
the missionaries.
After the meeting was closed
by prayer, lunch was served
and a social time spent.

Three 'Towns For
Leader Training
United Church elders and
stewards in Huron presbytery
will attend schools next week
to gain a broader understand-
ing of their responsibilities.
Three schools will be con-
ducted: in Wingham on March
20, Ontario Street United Ch-
urch, Clinton on March 21, and
James Street United Church,
Exeter, March 22,
Purpose of the annual edu-
cational project is to provide
an opportunity for elderS and
stewards to grow in knowledge
and understanding of their
work, to broaden their under-
standing of Christian steward-
ship in terms of time, talent
and material, possessions.
Colorful film charts will be
used for the first time this
year to emphasize • important
phases of the church program.
Discussion periods will also be
featured.
Three ministers and three
laymen in the presbytery have
been trained to serve as lead-
ers of the schools.
At Wingham, the instructors
will be Rev. Lloyd Brown,
Brussels, and George Parsons,
Goclerich, with Wilf Caslick,
Presbytery Men vice-president,
acting as chairman,
The Clinton school will be
conducted by George Levis,
zone chairman, and the lead-
ers will be Rev. Currie Win-
law, Hensall, and Ernest Wil-
liams, Seaforth.
In Exeter, Rev. Ernest Lewis
and John Goman will be the
leaders. President Robert
Southcott will act as chairman.
Friendship Club
March Meeting
St. Paul's Friendship Club
met in the Parish Hall on Mar-
ch 8. Opening exercises •Sind
business discussions were under
the direction of the president,
Mrs. Toni Deeves. The members
quilted a crib quilt before en-
joying refreshments.
The next regular meeting will
be held in the Parish Hall on
Wednesday, March 22, when
Don Ellwood will show some Of
his slides of scenic views
throughout Ontario.

John Thomas. McCaughey, 'a
goneer of Morris Township hut
for the past 11 years a. resi-
dent of Blyth, died Friday
morning, at the Clinton Public
Hospital, where he had been a
patient since November.
He was in. his 88th year.
There are no immediate surviv-
ors. Service from St, Michael's
Roman Catholic Church, Blyth,
with requiem high mass sung
by the parish priest, Rev, L. E.
Reed-Lewis, Clinton, on Mon-
day morning, March 13, Burial
in St, Michael's Cemetery, Mor-
ris Township.
Mrs. Mary Cotton
Funeral service was conduct-
ed on 'Thursday, March 9 in
the J. A. de Santis funeral
home, Detroit, for Mary Mas-
on, widow of the late Edward
Cotton, who passed away in
Detroit on Tuesday, March 7.
Interment was in Forest Lawn
Cemetery.
The Rev. James N. Bedford,
Beulah Baptist Church conduc-
ted the service, Mrs. Cotton had
;been a member of this church
for over 60 years,
Pall-bearers were Ralph Mc-
Brien, Kenneth MacNicol, Ral-
ph Totten, R. Fricke, E. Mc-
Brien and Robert Gibbs.
Mrs. Cotton was well known
in this area, where she had
visited her brother, the late T.
E. Mason, Summerhill, quite
frequently. She was born at
Barrie, Ontario on October 17,
1869 and had spent her young-
er days at Clinton. She married
Edward Cotton (deceased) and
was a twin sister of the late
Martha Josling and of the late
T. E. Mason.
Survivors are Mrs. Ralph
Totten, Windsor; Ray Mason,
Windsor; Mrs. George Yeats,
England and Harold Josling,
Detroit, all nieces and nephews,

The Stanley Ladies' Club met
at the home of Mrs. George
Cantelon. Roll call was answer-
ed by 15 members and six vis-
itors and 14 children who told
how they would like to 'be re-
membered if they were shut-
ins.
It was moved by Mrs. John
McGregor and seconded by Mrs.
Ed Glen to give $5 each to the
Heart Fund, Red Cross and the
Easter Seals.
Mrs. John and Frank McGr-
egor reported on their visit to
the Clinton hospital auxiliary
meeting and Mrs. Glenn Broad-
foot and Mrs. Walter Moffatt e ,
were appointed to attend the
next meeting.
Plans for a party to be held
on Friday, March 10 were dis-
cussed. Mrs. Ed Glen gave an
amusing reading and Mrs. Ver-
hoef ,conducted a contest.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. Glenn Broad-
foot with the roll call to be
"My Favourite TV Program".
