A new book of piano duets
entitled "Hymns For Two"
which has just been published
by the Boston Music Comp-
any in Boston, Mass., has br-
ought honors to a former Cline
tonian, Mrs. Lela Hoover Ward
of London Road, Guelph. Mrs.
Ward's father was one of the
partners in the Clinton firm
of Hoover and Ball, now Ball
and Mutch.
This latest book of piano du-
ets, written- for the beginner,
is number eleven in a series
composed by Mrs. Ward. Her
most recent book was entitled
"Hymns For You" which was
far piano solo work.
Mrs. Ward has always had
an interest in helping children
and several years ago she th-
ought of writing a book for the
beginner piano student. After
several ideas she came up with
her first group of piano solos
and entitled the book "Jibbidy
F. -and A.C.E." This of course
is phonetic pronunciation of
the notes of the scale. This
idea is an entirely new concept
of teaching and there are no
other books published which
use this method.
Because of her connection
with American publishing firms
Mrs. Ward is often mistaken
for an American citizen, but
she says she is proud to be
called a Canadian. She taught
music for five years at Haver-
gal College in Toronto. During
residence in New York follow-
ing her marriage, she was a
pupil of Sigismund Stojowski,
a pupil-protege of Paderewski,
the eminent Polish pianist.
