PHONE HU 2 , 9511 Ball-Bridle Huron County has met its financial obligation toward the nation-wide fight against can- cer for 1960, it was revealed this week by R. E. Pooley, Ex- eter, chairman of the annual campaign for funds. Mr. Pooley revealed Huron citizens contributed a total of $15,555 this year, representing 104 percent of the county's ob- jective of $15,000. "We remain extremely grate- ful for the continuing and in- creasing support the cancer campaign receives from Huron County," Mr. Pooley stated. "The success of the canapaign, particularly in view of the fact that we raised our objective $2,000 is a tribute to the gene- rosity of our citizens toward a worthy and vital cause." Mr. Pooley also expressed ap- preciation toward the hundreds of volunteer workers who as- sisted , in the campaign. In addition to the campaign contributions, another $1,435 has been donated to cancer work through the use of in Trinity Anglican. Church, Blyth, was the setting an Fri- day evening, August 12, for the wedding of Miss Margaret Christine Bridle and David William John Ball, both of Clinton. The bride is the only dau- ghter of Mayor and Mrs. Her- bert Bridle, Huron Street, Clin- ton, and the bridegroom is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ball, King Street, Clinton. Rev. Robert Meally officiated. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a street- length gown of white silk chif- fon. The fitted bodice, which had a Sabrina neckline and three-quarter length sleeves, extended. into a bouffant skirt styled with a band of Chantilly lace over taffeta. Her head- dress was of draped silk chiffon trimmed with iridescent ros- ettes' and circular .chapel veil; and she carried a bouquet of pink Delight roses. Miss Sandra Bradley, Gode-rich, cousin of the bride, as bridesmaid, wore a street- length gown of pink lace over taffeta and carried' a bouquet of white chrysanthemums. Gerald Cox, Clinton, was greemsman; and ushering Were Edward Bridle, Clinton, brother of the bride, and Douglas Ball, Clinton, brother of the groom. A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. The bride's mother wore a fig- ured beige and brown duster ensemble, with beige accessor- ies and a corsage of orange-ice bronze-tinted carnations. The bridegroom's mother wore a white and brown figured en- semble, with matching acces- sories and a corsage of orange- ice bronze-tinted carnation's'. For a wedding trip to Niag- ara Falls, the bride donned a royal blue velvet suit, with white accessories and a corsage of Talisman roses. Miss Bridle hat been guest of honor at showers given by staff of Herb's Food Market, and friends, at the home of Mrs. Mervyn Makin; also one at the home of Mrs. Orval Webber, Varna, where about 18 school classmates attended. Harper, Gode- rich, the unit treasurer, re- veals a total of $16,689 has been forwarded to Ontario di- vision of the Canadian Cancer Society, representing the county's' total contribution to- ward research, service and ed- ucational programs across Canada in 1960. A portion of this amount has been refunded to the unit for use in its work among cancer patients in the county. The unit provides transportation, nursing services, pain-relieving drugs and other essential ser- vices to patients in need. It also sponsors educational pro- grams for Huron citizens. Of the five districts in the county, Wingham and Blyth led in surpassing their objectives. Wingham raised 156 percent oe its, quota, followed closely by 131li with 152 'pendent. Others, in order, were: Sea- forth, 121 percent; Exeter, 108 percent; Goderich, 99 percent; Clinton, 40 percent. Clark-Henry A charming wedding took place in the manse of Wesley-Willis United Church on Satur- day, August 6, when Barbara Ann, only daughter of Mrs. Har- ry L. Henry ,and the late Har- ry L, Henry, was married to Donald Clark, Walkerton, son of Mr, and Mrs. King Clark, Bredenburg, Sask, The, Rev, 3, A, McKim conducted the ceremony. The bride wore a street- length sheath dress of white bridal lace over taffeta, having an overskirt of white nylon or- ganza '(on a wide lace band). Her shoulder-length veil of il- lusion tulle was escalloped with lace applique held in place with a white beaded cor- onet. She wore long lace glov- es and a single strand of pearls, She carried a white Bible cres- ted with mauve sweet peas and mauve and white streamers. Miss Ruth Aim Batkin was her only attendant, and wore a similar length dress of lilac nylon organza over pastel prin, ted satin with matching mit- tens, Her whimsey headdress was of lilac nylon tulle accent- uated with a double pleated bow of nylon organza. She wore a shoulder corsage of white baby 'mums and fern with lilac-ton- ed leaves and ribbon. Robert Reid was groomsman, A small reception was held at the home of the bride's mo- ther who wore powder blue sheath dress with navy acces- sories and a corsage of pink roses. The bride's travelling cos- tume was a white dress with mauve accessories. The young couple will live at Walkerton where Mr. Clark is manager of the Steadman Store. The bride has been on staff at the Clinton Branch, Royal Bank of Canada. Misses Ruth Ann and Jane Batkin entertained over 30 neighbours and friends at a miscellaneous shower in hon- our of Miss Henry prior to the wedding. The house was taste- fully decorated with summer flowers, mauve and white streamers and white bells. The bride-elect was assisted in re- moving gifts from a decorated wishing well by Misses Jo Ann Bates and Helen Cudmore. Con- tests were enjoyed and refresh- ments served by the hostesses. Miss Henry thanked all pre- sent for the lovely gifts and good wishes. The charming home of Mrs. Douglas Bartliff was the scene of a delightful miscellaneous shower. The large living room was beautifully decorated with summer flowers; roses, gladi- oli, daisies and sweet peas bank- ed the fireplace. A group of 35 companions and friends enjoyed contests and happy cheater. A dainty lunch . was -prepared and serv- ed by the hostess waisted by some of Barbara's friends.
