Clinton News-Record, 1960-06-16, Page 3Thursday, June 16, 1960 Clinton News,Recard Page 3, Schoenhals Family Keeps up Sports Skills Earn Prizes at Saskatoon Field Meet The children of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Schoenhals, who moved to Saskatoon, last summer, have continued their record here of outstanding achievement in sports. The following is a report received here of the field day held in that city: "It was one of those outstanding days weather-wise on Monday, May 30, and the annual Saskatoon high school track and field meet at Griffiths stadium couldn't help but match the script. Individual and school achievements exceeded all expectations as 550 students, representatives from the seven city collegiates scrambled for berths on a 24-member provincial team, "Nancy Schoenhals, a grade 9 student at Nutana Collegiate, won points for her school with a first, second and fourth. She placed first in the Midget High Jump (height 4'6") and tied the city record in that event, The previous week in Nutana's field meet, Nancy won a first and three seconds. "A tea and reception for the young people and their parents followed in the school library. In the evening the graduation ban- quet was'.held in the school gym followed by a dance. It was a. memorable day for the students, but there was added significance on this occasion, for these gradua- tion exercises were part of the gol- den jubilee celebration of the city's original collegiate, The 50th an- niversary formed •the theme for the table decorations at the ban- quet where the long tables were trimmed with the double blue school colours enhanced with gold foil. The souvenir programs were inscribed with the words "golden anniversary" and the event was referred to by after-dinner speak- ers. The fitted bo- dice was of lace, trimmed with sequins and long sleeves, A crown of irridescent sequins held her fingertip veil. She carried a cres- cent of red roses, showered with white satin ribbon. The matron of honour, Mrs. Ray Larnon, Seaforth, sister of the bride, ware a waltz-length gown of turquoise net over taf- feta with 'matching jacket and small hat. She carried-a crescent of white 'mums. Ted Crich, brother of the groom, was groomsman. A reception followed at Keith McLean's. They were married in 1910 at the home of the bride's parents in Hullett Township. After farming for 34 years, they retired to Clinton in 1944.
