Schoenhals Family Keeps up Sports Skills
Earn Prizes at Saskatoon Field Meet
The children of Mr. and Mrs.
Stewart Schoenhals, who moved
to Saskatoon, last summer, have
continued their record here of
outstanding achievement in sports.
The following is a report received
here of the field day held in that
city:
"It was one of those outstanding
days weather-wise on Monday,
May 30, and the annual Saskatoon
high school track and field meet
at Griffiths stadium couldn't help
but match the script. Individual
and school achievements exceeded
all expectations as 550 students,
representatives from the seven
city collegiates scrambled for
berths on a 24-member provincial
team,
"Nancy Schoenhals, a grade 9
student at Nutana Collegiate, won
points for her school with a first,
second and fourth. She placed first
in the Midget High Jump (height
4'6") and tied the city record
in that event, The previous week
in Nutana's field meet, Nancy won
a first and three seconds.
"On the same day her brother
Paul took third in the pole vault
and first in the 100 yards (time
trip to Niagara Fails, the bride
choosing a blue cotton dress with
matching duster, white accessor-
ies and a corsage of pink carna-
tions. On their return they will
reside in Clinton.
11,4 sec,) setting a new school
record in this event,
"Paul is one of the 128 students
at Nutana Collegiate who will be
graduating this year from Grade
12, having completed secondary
schooling, Convocation exercises
were held on the afternoon of
May 27, at which time several
awards and scholarships were an-
nounced, Dr. J. A. Crouch, univer-
sity of Saskatchewan, gave the ad-
dress to the graduates and valedic-
torian was Mike McCourt.
"A tea and reception for the
young people and their parents
followed in the school library. In
the evening the graduation ban-
quet was'.held in the school gym
followed by a dance. It was a.
memorable day for the students,
but there was added significance
on this occasion, for these gradua-
tion exercises were part of the gol-
den jubilee celebration of the city's
original collegiate, The 50th an-
niversary formed •the theme for
the table decorations at the ban-
quet where the long tables were
trimmed with the double blue
school colours enhanced with gold
foil. The souvenir programs were
inscribed with the words "golden
anniversary" and the event was
referred to by after-dinner speak-
ers. Clarence Garvie proposed the
toast to the students who were
joining the long line (50 years
long) of graduates."
