COUNCIL AIEETING A special meeting of the council ,was held on Saturday evening to hear the report of the committee appointed on June 2nd who were to- inspect-the water tanks at the xnills and Ring ,George Hotel, and also the raising of the sidewalk in front of Brown &• Clark’s blacksmith shop. Councillor Higgins reported that he had made an inspection of the tanks and sidewalk accompanied by Air. Alf. Taylor, and as Air. Taylor was present at the meeting he was called on to give his views and probable cost of the work. Aftex- Air, Tayloi' had addressed the council it was moved by Higgins and seconded by Priest that Mr. Taylor be given the job of raising the sidewalk in front of the Brown & Clark property, said work to .be don? by day labor. It was then moved by Higgins second ed by Cameron that Geo. -Hudson, and Councillor Priet remove the old’ top on the tank at the King George Hotel and have the tank cleaned and repaired and a new cement top nut on it. Reeve Geigei* reported that the oil for the streets would be here soon and it was moved by Con- sitt, seconded by Cameron, that Councillor Higgins look aftei’ the putting on of the oil. W. H. Reynolds, one of the- pioneers' of- this village of Hensall audrhighly respected in the community. Mrs. Reynolds was born in Clifton, Bedfordshire,. Eng land, in 1S44, coming to .Canada in. 1874 with».her husband, tlie late AV. H. Reynolds, who predeceased hex’ 7 years ago. After a year or two in London and Exeter the family set tled in H-ensallrwhere she has resid ed until liei‘ death. Kirs. Reynolds was the beloved mother of ten children, six girls and four boys, six of -whom survive Ker; William, of Tillsonburg; Amy and Airs. T. .G. Robinson, at home;-Mrs. Geo, Ram sey, of Willows, Sask..; Percy, of Moosejaw, Sask., and Florence, of Calgary. The funeral, . What might have a been a serious accident happened on Saturday ev ening when Cameron McLean, who was on his way to Kirkton lost con trol of his car while nearing a small bridge on the 14tli concession. The car crashed into the railing breaking it off and wrecking the car. The anniversary services of St. I Paul’s church past off nicely on Sun day. The church was filled both morning and evening. Rev. Mr. Samuel Tuft went to London this week to have an X-Ray. He has not been feeling well for some time. We hope his ailment will not be of a serious nature. He has recently recei ved a supply of roadmaps, book lets, etc., WHALEN The W. Al. S. of Whalen United church held their June meeting at the home of Airs. Freeman Arksy. The 2nd vice-president. Airs. John Hazelwood, very ably took charge of the meeting which took the usual form. There was a splendid atten dance and the roll call was answer ed with the paying of the fees. Tilt chief feature of the afternoon was the report of the convention of the London Conference branch of the W. M. S. which was held in Walker ville, given by Mrs. (Rev.) Irwin. ,She gave the report in a very inter esting manner and received the thanks of the Auxiliary. After the meeting-tea was served and a social tme enjoyed.
