Guides at Camp
Learn To Make
Fire From Sticks
Saturday, October 10, the First
Clinton Guide Company enjoyed a
beautiful fall day's outing at the
Cub camp on the Maitland River.
They left via Murphy's bus at 10
a.m. under the supervision of Mrs.
"Bud" Graham, Mrs. Duff Thomp-
son, Mrs. L. G, Winter. Nature
study and games were enjoyed in
the morning, Each Guide brought
her own lunch and these were
eaten out of doors.
They gathered in a circle after
lunch, while Scoutmaster Bob
Mitchell displayed the different
ways of building a fire, and the
importance of knowing how to put
out a fire properly. The method
of rubbing two sticks together to
start a fire was very capably
shown to the Guides.
He pointed out many other in-
teresting points regarding the art
of building a fire. A vote of
thanks was given him by the
Guides. ' •
Guide Barbara Corey organized
a scavenger hunt, and it was in-
teresting to see the result and
how each patrol had displayed
their find.
The Guides departed by bus at
3,45, singing a variety of songs
on the way home.
