Grieve, assistant agricultural representative for Huron County) "White bean harvest in the county has started with yields lower than usual due to the blight. Recent wet weather has hampered the completion of grain harvest and curing of second cut hay in some parts of the county, Pros- pects for high yields of grain corn are very good. (Ps a. Carl The Government has released the details of its deficiency Pay- ment plan for eggs, Deficiency payments will be made on the first 4,000 dozen eggs produced by any one producer, This applies only to the A large and A extra large grades. The deficiency pay- ment will be the difference be- tween the actual Market price to the producer and the producer price based on 44 cents delivered in Montreal. This 44 cents price at Montreal apparently returns to the produc- er 33 cents in this area. To get some idea of the amount of de- ficiency payment that would have been necessary from the first of January this year let us look at the prices that were quoted lo- cally by egg grading stations. From January 1 to March 9 it would have required a deficiency payment of about 11/2 cents per dozen to bring returns up to the 33 cents. It would also have re- quired about the same payment from about the middle of April to the end of June, Deficiency payments do not op- erate so simply, They will bp based on the average price for the year. On this basis no defic- iency payment would have been necessary since from the first of the year 'tit the middle of Aug- ust the quoted price has been a- lienaingway) Bove the floor just has been below. as much as it The 4,000 dozen quota will cov- er the production of something less than 300 hens, This means that the farmer with 300 hens will receive practically the same sup- port as he is getking now, The large producer with 10,000 or more hens will be entirely de- pendant on the market price, I asked several egg grading For the FINEST BUILDING SUPPLIES at a FAIR PRICE look for this sign of quality LDA Dealers in your town. J. W. COUNTER BUILDERS' SUPPLIES Phone HU 2-9612 — Albert St. Clinton, Ont. station operators what they ex- pected to be able to pay October 1. when the government stops buy- ing eggs. About 20 cents was the answer I received, If this is true the large producer is going to have a bad time, I doubt that he can stay in business very long at this price and If ho sells, his hens will probably only bring 25 cents each, if fowl prices drop as they are expected to. The other person interested is the -conzumer. lie apparently Can expect to buy eggs very cheaply for a time but I wonder will he also have to look forward to pay- ing a very high price sometime in the•future?. Perhaps the high price will be. controlled by imports from the. U.S., Ireland or Hungary as has happened in the past. I don't think the consumer will be too, happy with the quality of the imports. 1 9 5 8 1 9 5 7 1 9 5 6 r. 75 CAR SALE 75 CAR SALE ---75 CAR SALE ' Pearson Motors Ltd.—Pearson Motors Ltd.—Pearson Motors Ltd.— Pearson Motors '58 PONTIAC Strato Chief-2-Door, 6 cylinder, custom radio—$1,995 '58 PONTIAC Laurentian Hardtop-4-door, automatic, radio, 16,000 miles.
