Ladies Civil Service League Selects 1959 Officers; -Reviews Year's Work One of the most common house- hold problems; especially in a newly-built house, is sticking doors which may result from war- Ping, shrinking of the frame () from dampness, To, make repairs it may be nec- essary to lift the door , off its hinges. When the door is .being removed, the pin on the bottom' hinge should be taken out first, The reverse order should. be fol-lowed when replacing the door, first- placing the weight on the top hinge for ease of handling. If the door - binds, along the, hinge edge the trouble can some, times. be .corrected simply by placing pieces 'of cardboard khpwn as shims, 'underneath the hinge that screws to the door frame. $Oinetitnes it may be preferable to plane down the dpor. 'Care should be taken, however, to re- move only suffipient wood to re- lieve the •pressure. Planing will be necessary if the fit on the opposite side or lock edge is too tight. to permit the use 'of shims under the hinges, If the door has sprung.inwards or ,outwards between the two hide ges, fitting an additional hinge in the centre may be the soltition. When binding is due to swelling Did You Know -I provide you with credit so that C-*" t 1 Nio psi P when necessary you can borrow_ 4) ir• from me for any providentor: productive pur- pose: I AM YOUR CREDIT UNION Clinton Community Credit Union Limited - after a damp or rainY Period, only suffieient should be dune to allow the door to close .with- out binding. Removing more wood than necessary will snake the door too narrow when it dries- out If binding is clue to swelling, planed sections should be sealed to pre- vent any further absorption of moisture. If a door binds at the top or bottom .the edge will have to be planed to permit proper clearance. Planing the top -edge can usually' be done without removing the . door, unless binding occurs 'at a point which cannot be reached' with. the door in position. Binding points may be located • by 'noting where the _ paint has been scraped off. If these point* cannot be spotted, the door edge should be marked with chalk wh- ich will rub off at the points of contact.
