I FIVE PIN BOWLING NEWS I
TPRIRSDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 3.950
"Ducky" Denomme had a great
night in goal and repeatedly
thwarted. the Mohawk snipers to
keep the Colts right in the game,
Thirteen penalties were called in
the game and both teams were
continually on their toes while
playing a man short, Two near
outbursts occurred, the most ser
ious one when Wein and Jack
"Sugar" Meriam matched sticks
in the Exeter corner in the second
Murray "Pic" Colqohoun opened
the scoring for the Colts when
he let go a looping backhander
from the Exeter blue line that
sailed over the startled Exeter
goalie's shoulder. Bill (Merle tied
the score for Exeter at the middle
of the period when he batted in
a goal, from right in front of the
net. Then with little less than a
minute left in the period Oberle
dumped a pass from the net that
Loader batted in to send the Mo-
hawks into a 2-1 lead in the first.
In the second period it took
Clinton only two minutes to tie
it up when Ken Doig scored an
unassisted goal that he fired from
about 30 ft, in front of the net.
Two minutes later it was Doig
again who put Clinton into the
lead when he took a pass out from
Cruickshank. Then when Exeter
got a penalty to Baynham it look-
ed as if Clinton might stretch their
lead; but, "Boom Boom' Gravette
got Oberle in the open and he
made no mistakes in tying the
game.
John Hartley scored at the 11
minute mark for the Colts to give
them a one goal lead which they
carried to the end of the second.
In the third period Lee scored
his first goal of the season to
put Clinton two up, only to have
Ram-no11 come right back with a
goal for Exeter. At the 12 minute
mark Oberle scored his third goal
of the night to tie the score, and
six seconds later Larry Heideman
scored for Exeter again to put
them in the lead. Doug Cruick-
shank tied the score for the Colts
two minutes later when he jabbed
the puck home from a goal-mouth
scramble. Denomme came up with
a key save on "Red" Loader at
this time when the redhead was
right in on him. With only seconds
left in the game, Doig carried a
rush into the Exeter end and took
his shot. "Sugar" Meriam was
"Johnny-on-the-spot" and rifled
the rebound by the goalie for the
winning goal with only eight sec-
onds left to play.
The Colts next scheduled game
is on December 5 at their home
arena when Lucan Irish will pro-
vide the opposition.
Colts Win First
On Home Ice
Over Mitchell
Jack Mariam and Doug Cruick-
shank provided the scoring punch
as the Clinton Colts picked up
their first win in their home open-
er at the local arena. Meriam
and Cruickshank scored three goals
for their night's effort with Ken
Doig picking up the other goal.
Doig also had a helping hand in
four other goals.
Clinton opened the scoring in
the first period when Meriam scor-
ed on a pass from Doig for his
first goal. Clinton was a man short
at the time. At the halfway mark
in the period Doig scored Clint-
on's second goal unassisted.
Cruickshank rounded out the
scoring for Clinton in the first
when he slapped in a shot from
in front of the net.
In the second period Meriam
scored his second goal to put Clin-
ton up 4-0 before Mitchell came
back to score three straight goals
to come within one of the Colts.
Cruickshank scored his second
goal of the night late in the second
period to put Clinton two goals up.
Meriam and Cruickshank both
scored third period goals to com-
plete a "hat trick" each. R. Hart-
leib finished the scoring for Mit-
chell in the third with a shot from
the point. Clinton had six penal-
ties called against them while Mit-
chell had only two.

SS 4 Farm Forum
(By Mrs. I. Merrill)
The SS 4 Goderich Township
Farm Forum. met this week at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E.
Thompson, with nine members
presents This was review night.
and a very intelligent summary of
the topics which had been discus-
sed was given by Rodger Schwass,
Toronto.
In connection with the TV For-
um broadcast a questionaire was
on the subject of "Rabies". The
question — what measures have
been or should be taken in your
area to control rabies? The bounty
for foxes in Huron County has
been raised from $1 to $4.
And the question—should the
farmer who has lost animals thr-
ough rabid foxes be allowed corn
pensation, if so, by whom ? It is
understood that the law does not
call for compensaion by the gov-
ernment for rabies, as it does for
foot and mouth and other similar
diseases, which compel a farmer
to destroy his herd to keep the
disease from spreading. During the
discussion on this question we
think these farmers, who have lost
their cattle from rabies, by the
cattle being bitten by either rabid
foxes or dogs, should be allowed
compensation, which should be paid
by the Federal Government. We.
think some of the laws need to be
changed to suit our times.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ira
Merrill on Tuesday evening.
