officially ended recently. During the eight years
it has been in force, more than 5,000 pilots and
navigators from ten other NATO nations were

training was to provide a nucleus of trained fly-
ers about which the unitial buildup of the nations'
air forces was to take place. This task has been
completed for the majority, but under separate
agreements, airmen from three of the original
ten countries and those from West Germany will
continue to be trained in Canada.

Month of August
-Sandwich Time
August has been designated
Sandwich Month as a 'tribute to
one of our most basic form's of
serming' food — basic, in fact,
it raises as 'tantalizing question.
Just what did people do before
the Earl of Sandwich delighted
sophisticated 18th Century Eng-
lish society with the ingenious-
idea of serving his guests meat
and cheese between two pieces
of bread?
We can onty be thankful that
that problem has been solved for
us. Today tire sandwich is a
daily requirement for most Cana-
dians but it really comes Unto its
own during the summer months.
The sandwich 'is not only for pic-
nickers but for hikers, for child-
ren in the ibackYard and for fish-
ermen who don't want 'to take
time' 'out for lunch. The out door
sandwich lunch is easy to pre-
pare as well as nourishing and
with a little care can be as fresh
and appetizing as when 'first pre-
pared.
For the early morning hiker or
fisherman, sandwiches may be
made the evening before. When
wrapped in transparent plastic
wrap the bread and falling will
retain all the original freshness.
It's often desirable to prepare
sandwiches several' days in ad-
vance for the, freezer, to be taken
out when needed. Most fillings
can be frozen with these excep-
tions; lettuce, and fillings with
salad dressing or mayonnaise.
Fishermen find plastic wrap es-
pecially desirable when fishing in
a boat where there's chance of
getting the lunch wet. The mois-
ture is kept out. Sandwiches,
cookies and cakes don't get
soggy.

65 Tons of Paper
In Conversion Bonds
With. total oonversions of Vict-
ory Loan bonds now well over
the, two 'billion dollar anark
cargo of paper the equal of a
thousand king's ransoms will be-
gin moving out of Ottawa any
day.
Altogether, by the time the
Canada Conversion Loan program
concludes in mid-September, the
new bond shipments from the
capital will be sufficient ta re-
place six billion dollars 'worth of
Victory Bonds.
The record cargo will travel ex-
press 'by rail and air, in closely-
guarded packages addressed to
agents of the Bank of Canada
from coast to coast. Each pack-
age will' contain bonds of the new,
$6.4 billion Canada Conversion
Loan in denominations ranging'
upwards' from $50 to $1,000,000,
While the shipments will 'be dir-
ected to the bank's agents in the
major cities, many of the new
bonds' will find their way to smal-
ler 'cities and towns where a great
many of the estimated two mil-
lion Victory Bond holders live.
Officials say that the cargo of
bonds will weigh roughly 65 tons,
Never before in the history of the
Bank of Canada has there been
a bond cargo' of such, staggering
size.
$5 Licence Required
To Catch Bullfrogs
Bullfrogs may 'be taken in Ont-
ario from July 'to October 15, /ten
per day, but no 'one may be in
possession of more than one day's
catch at any time.
To take frogs on a commercial
basis, however, requires a $5 lic-
ence which permits •the licence
holder to sell frogs taken 'and to
use artificial lights 'to take, them
at night. A six-by-six foot dip
net 'also may be used.
No one has authority to take
frogs with a spear.
It takes' three years for a bull-
frog to emerge from the tadpole
stage 'and another three years' to
grow to parent size. So, small
bullfrogs should be left unmolest-
ed so they may reach maturity
and a decent size for eating, Ont-
ario Department 'orf Lands and
Forests officials advise.
There are no restrictions as
to the' number of small green or
leopard frogs that may be taken.
These frogs are used in most cases
as' 'bait for the taking of fish.,
