WORK IN PLANNING THE NEW
wing on the public school, has
gone on apace and according to
Clayt. Dixon, chairman of the
school board, it is expected that
a tender will be accepted within
a week . . Meanwhile at the old
public school building already two
apartments have been completed,
and are occupied . . Work on
the remainder of the project is
being continued by Mr. and Mrs.
C. VanDamme . • * k *
SOMETIMES IN THE DAILIES,
one reads little exerpts from com-
ment on the floor of the House
of Commons, which would go well
in almost any vaudeville show . .
For instance when Mike Pearson
asked Mr. Pearkes the other day
if there really were signs in one
of the defence offices which said
"If it works, its obsolete" . . .
Here is comment from Clinton
Council meeting this week:
—Councillor Bridle: I was about
to sign a motion here but I see
someone has changed uptown to
downtown. I fail to see the dif-
ference.
—Clerk Livermore: Downtown is
down here. Uptown is the out-
skirts. (general chuckles) -
-Councillor Bridle: Since the last
half hour discussion I'm convinced
council doesn't know up from
down anyway.

It is understood that the CNR
recommended the Clinton yards
for this purpose, as being the only
one available which would accom-
modate the 150 head. The cattle
were routed through Fort Erie
and Buffalo.
Mr. Donaldson is planning a trip
to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to buy
cattle and to judge at livestock
shows, and will leave to-morrow.
On his return, it is possible that
another similar shipment may be
undertaken.
Mr. Bechtol reported very fav-
ourably upon the condition of the
cattle he had bought, saying, "We
just don't have cattle as good as
this at home —:nor nothing like
it." The red cattle are chosen for
their ability to avoid suffering
from "pink-eye" or "cancer-eye",
both to be reckoned with in cattle
in the hotter state of Georgia. Mr.
Bechtol said temperatures of 90
were the regular thing at this time
of year, where these cattle are
being shipped.
