The Woman's Missionary Soc-
iety and Woman's Association
held a joint meeting on September
19, with a fair attendance. The
WA has been asked to cater for
three banquets in October. The
last half of the members names
on the roll are requested to bring
article's for the auction' basket for
the October meeting:

for the' pulpit in memory of Miss
Esther Lyon.

a rally on MendaY evening; Sept-ember 16, for ;the Mission Circles
'of the presbytery; Supper was
served' and Gail Lear led a sing
song accompanied at -the organ by
Marguerite Lyon;
Mrs, J. T. White sedi'etary of
Mission Circles for' the presbytery,.
stressed the fact that replies to,
any letters. sent out were a great
help, She 'also" hoped that more
mission circles would be formed in
the presbytery,.

a buzz session and a few questions,
concerning preparation of worship

the new study book on Japan and
"questions and answers" was giv-
en with Mrs. E. Potter repreSent-
ing Canada and Mrs. Les Jervis
speaking for japan, A reading
"This is japan" was given by Mrs.
Fred Mulholland.
The Woman's Association 'meet-
ing followed, with the president,
Mrs, S. Farquha; presiding, Mrs,
Edward Grigg,. gave the treasur-
er's report. Final plans were made
for the fall bazaar. Hostesses for
the day were Mrs. N. Heard, Mrs.
Huller' and Mrs. B. MacMath.

ville United Church, will be held
on Sunday, October 13.
Jack Norman has, enrolled in'
the Engineering Coutse at the Un-
iversity of Toronto. Besides win-
ning •a Stuart Scholarship, Jack
won an Atkinson Foundation Bur-

A pleasant evening took place
last Saturday at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. D. L, Stephenson, Varna
"when about 20 old friends and nei-
ghbours from the Summerhill COM-
&amity 'paid a surprise visit. The
evening was spent playing prog-
ressive euchre, after which Mrs.
Charles Merrill and Mrs. Allen
Neal, on behalf of the visitors,
presented Mr. and Mrs. Stephenson
with a lovely chenille bedspread.
The evening closed with a bOunt-
ious lunch served by the' visiting ladies.
