Miss J Sparling
Miss Elsie Jane Sparling, Reg,N.,
52, Detroit, died suddenly of a
heart attack on July 11 at Wa-
saga Beach, She was the daughter
of Mrs. Mary Sparling, and the
late George Sparling, formerly of
Brussels.
After graduating from Guelph
General Hospital, class of 1922, she
was a member of the nursing staff
of Aule Hospital, Cleveland, for
some years, later at hospitals in
Carlsbad, New Mexico; Hollywood,
Calif.; and Memorial Hospital,
Niagara Falls, N.Y., then to Wo-
man's Hospital, East Hancock St.,
Detroit, where she has been a
valued member of the staff for 15
years.
Surviving besides her mother,
Mrs, Mary Sparling, Brussels, are
two brothers, Alex, St. Marys;
Victor, Detroit; and five sisters,
Mrs. Ray Fear, Clinton; Mrs. R.
C. Rathwell, Collingwood; Mrs.
Muriel Collett, Niagara Falls;
Mrs. Walter Munday, Los Angeles,
and Mrs, Allan Arnold, Toronto.
Funeral services were held from
the Beattie funeral home, Clinton,
on Tuesday, July 14, with the Rev.
A. G. Eagle, Ontario Street United
Church, officiating. Interment was
in Brussels Cemetery. ,
The pallbearers, who were cous-
ins of the deceased, were Lawr-
ence Stephenson, Fred Stamen,
Harvey Stewart, Gerald, Fred and
Elgin Rathwell.
Eight nurses formed a guard of
honor and carried the many
beautiful floral tributes, received
from the board of management,
medical and nursing staffs, assoc-
iate nurses and doctors of Wo-
men's Hospital, Detroit, and from
personal friends.
Among those from a distance
who attended'the funeral, besides
the family, were former class-
mates Mrs, Hilda Griffiths, New
Mexico; Mrs. Elizabeth Burrows
and Miss Laura Sprowl, Guelph;
Misses Violet French and Orville
Mills, Cleveland; Miss Frances
Anderson, director of nurses; Dr.
Ruth Preston, and a large number
of nurses from the hospital staff;
thus expressing the esteem in
which she was held by her co-
workers.
