neday to spend a few days with
them before returning to Detroit

Following the annual contract
bridge tournament in Goderich on
Saturday, Mr. and Mrs.'G..M. Gal-
braith entertained at 'a garden
party on Sunday at their 'home,
"Sylvan Acres", Blue Water High-
way, Goderich Township. Between
45 and 50 guests were present, in-
cluding players from Toronto,
Hamilton, London, Stratford,
Windsor and Detroit. Mrs. Gal-
braith served a buffet supper. Her
house guests over the weekend in-
cluded Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Flet-
cher, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. C. P.

Farewell Sermon
Rev. M. G. Newton preached his
farewell sermon on Sunday and
has left this week for his pew
charge in ,Melbourne. His many
friends of 'Ebenezer are sorry to
see Mr. and Mrs. Newton leave.

Mrs.. Stewart Farquhar w as
hostess for the June meeting of
the 'Woman's Association of Eb-
er}ezer United Church for the
June meeting. The meeting was
opened by repeating the creed and
singing the theme song, This was
followed by God Save the Queen,
The scripture and prayer were
given by Mrs. C. Houghton, and
the roll call followed, "My Favour-
ite Passage from the Bible". There
were 13 members present.
During the business period it
Was decided that the WA should
join the WA of Huron Presbytery.

The June meeting of the Varna
Womens' Missionary Society was
held at the home of Mrs. George
Reid, with the Parr Line group' in
charge. The meeting opened with
a hymh. Mrs. Anson Coleman
led in prayer. Mrs. S. Keyes read
the scripture. Mrs. Coleman gave
a reading on "The Bible".
Mrs. George Reid took Charge
of the business and the minutes of
the previous meeting were read
and adopted, seconded by Mrs. Lee
MCConnell. There were 16 mem-
bers and one visitor present. The
WMS and Baby Band picnic was
planned for July 7.
The devotional part of the meet-
ing was resumed with Mrs. Ralph
Stephenson giving a reading. about
"Rebecca Snow, Delegate". Mrs.
Gladys Coleman gave a • reading
entitled "A Shoe Shine Boy" and
Mrs. Reid told about "Rev. Amy
Shauffler".
Mrs. T. J. Pitt •told a story of
a presbyterial delegate in New-
foundland. The meeting closed
with a hymn and prayer by Mrs.
Pitt.
The ladies of the WA met at
the home of •Mrs. Louis Taylor on
Tuesday evening, June 23. The
president, Mrs. Louis Taylor, was
in charge of the meeting, which
opened with the theme song, fol-
lowed by "BIest are the pure in
heart".
Mrs. Mervyn Johnston read the
scripture from Matthew 5 : 1-14.
Thoughts on the lesson and prayer
was given by Mrs. Harold Dowson.
The minutes were read and moved
for adoption by the secretary, Mrs.
E. McClinchey and seconded by
Mrs. Percy Johnston.
Mrs. Johnston gave the treasur-
er's report in the absence of the
treasurer, Miss Rachel Johnston.
Twenty ladies answered the roll
call with a parcel for the fish pond
for the bazaar. It was moved by
Mrs. George Reid and seconded by
Mrs. Robert Taylor that we send
a donation to the south tornado
fund. The roll call will be answer-
ed next month with each member's
donation toward the fund. The
meeting closed with "0 For a
Heart to Praise my God", fpllow-
ed by the WA prayer. A social
hour was spent.
Mrs. At G. Newton during the
meeting. A reading was given by
Mrs, C. Houghton, and the chap-
ter from the study book was given
by Mrs. F, Jones.
An auction was held at the close
of the meeting with proceeds of
$8,40. The meeting was closed
with the hymn "Blest he the Tie
that Binds" and the Mi2pah bene-
diction. Lunch was served with
Mrs. Riggin as assistant hostess.
The next meeting is to be at the
home of Mrs. F. Lobb.

The Summerhill Ladies' Club
and USS No. 12, Goderich and
Hullett Townships, held their an-
nual combined picnic at Harbor
Park, Goderich, on Tuesday even-
ing, June 23, . with a good attend-
ance. .After a bountiful supper
they all took part in the sports.

married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Lovett; running races—pre-school
age, Billy Merrill; girls, five to
eight, Sandra Merrill; boys, five

girls, 11 to 14, Eileen 'Wright;

Young married ladies, Mrs. Wil-

John Gerrits; ladies spot race,
Mrs. Norman Wright; needle and
thread race, Dorothy Blake and
Carman Gwyn.
The men had a ball game and
the evening concluded with a pea-
nut scramble for the children.
