Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McPherson, returned. to Toronto on Sunday after spending Christmas with the latter'$ father, Jamea A. Camer- on, Miss Helen Edith Forrester, Goderich, also visited her step- father and mother over the long weekend, Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Warren and Mrs, Victor Groulx and Bobby, Aylmer, Quebec, are with Mrs. Lamirande until Monday. Mr. Warren, who is an accountant, has been transferred to• Kerwood. Mr, and Mrs. Warren plan to live in Strathroy, Mr. and Mrs. W. F, Buchan re- turned to Dunnville on Saturday after having spent Christmas with the former's sister, Mrs. N. W. Woods. Mr, and Mrs. R. H. Mid- dleton and Bobby, Hensel], were also there over Christmas and Mrs. Middleton and Bobby remain- ed to spend a week with her moth- er. Santa Claus had a busy time de- livering thirty-five bountiful Chris- tmas baskets to the old folk and shut-ins in Bayfield on Christmas Eve. His approach was heralded by joyous Christmas. Carols played over a loud speaker, and continu- ing while he greeted the recipients of gifts from the Bayfield Lion's Club. Trinity Church S.S. Partly The children of Trinity Church Sunday School enjoyed their an- nual Christmas party in the Or- ange Hall on Monday afternoon. Following games and stories under the direction of Mrs. W. E. Park- er, Mrs. R. H. F. Gairdner and Mrs. E. Carew -Jones, those pres- ent were served refreshments by members of, the Guild and then the children lined up on either side of the hall to receive gifts off the Christmas tree, candy and orang- es, which were distributed by the Sunday School teachers and sup- erintendent, J. H. Parker. oxsnopN vv'SYximoltD L, Warner Payne Injured L, Warner Payne, Listowel, who was injured in the chest and .arms when he stepped into the line of fire of a shotgun, in a rabbit hunt in Stanley Township near Bay- field on December 26, is making good progress towards recovery and is expected to be able to leave Scott Memorial Hospital, Seafprth, this week. He is reported to have climbed out of a gully just as an- other hunter fired at a rabbit. He was rushed to hospital where doc- tors removed a .considerable nutty,. ber of shotgun pellets. Mr. Payne who is an engineer with the On., tario Department of Highways, is on holidays and was spending the Christmastide at the home of his father-in-law, H, N, Brandon. Mrs, Payne has been staying in Seaf- orth to be near her husband, sin- ce the accident. Vire Burns Sugar Shanty While passing the property be- longing to Thomas M, and Gord- on Westlake on Monday evening about seven o'clock, Mr. Ginger- ich saw flames, and noticing no lights in the building, he crossed the road to Gladwin Westlake's home and turned in a fire alarm which was promptly answered by the Bayfield Fire Department. Although unable to save the 18' x 20' sugar shanty, which was ablaze, they did save the drive- sh,ed which was only ten feet fromit, and prevented spread to the other near -by buildings. The galvanized roof of the shanty collapsed and hampered fire -fighting operations, which consumed 1,000 gallons of water. The building housed all the maple syrup making equipment, the garden tractor, and welding out- fit. Loss of equipment, which was covered completely by in- surance, was $1200. With no in- surance on the building, this was a complete loss. The men had been welding in the shanty in the morning, but when they left had noticed noth- ing wrong. Carol Service. Held Trinity Church was filled ' on Sunday evening fox' a beautiful carol service in the charge of Rev. E. Carew -Jones in which the child- ren took a prominent part. No. 3, Stanley, presented a splendid Christmas Concert before a packed house in the Town Hal], Bayfield, on Friday, Dec. 19.
