A farewell presentation was
bela Friday, October 10, at. S.S.
10 'Tockersinith, in honor of Mr.
and Mrs. Edward McKay, and
Mr. and Mrs. Angus Robertson,
highly .esteemed residents of the
community who are leaving to
take up residence eleewhere. Mr.
and Mrs. McKay are .moving to
.Seeforth, and Mr. and Mrs, Rob,
ortsoo to Clinton.
Mr, and Mrs. McKay were pre-sented with a tri-light floor lamp
and their daughter Lila with a
lamp. The address was read by
Alex McGregor and presentations
were made by William Martin
and Kathryn McGregor,
Mr. and Mrs. Robertson were
presented with gifts of a coffee
table and smoker's stand. The
accompanying address was read
by Glenn Slavin, presentations
were made by Harvey Jacobi and
Campbell Eyre.
Progressive euchre was featnr-
ed with winners as follows: Lad-
ies, J. Jacobi; Gentlemen, Archie
Hoggarth: The affair was atten-
ded by over seventy neighbours
and friends and was very much
enjoyed. Refreshments were ser-ved.
Ronnie Anderson, 11 year-Old
son of Mr. and Mrs, Enunersori
Anderson, Kippen, and pupil at
Hensel!. Public School, was admit-
ted to Clinton Public Hospital
October 9, as the result of an
accident while working with an
electric saw in the barn on his

Raked Onions
Skin inedium-sized onions.
Pierce the side of each with a
darning neddle, Boil the onions
until tender. Drain and core with
an apple corer, Fill centres with
a mixture pf half crumbs and halt
grated cheese. Season with salt
and paprika. Place in a baking
dish. Add % inch of potato wat-
er or soup. Cover and bake in an
electric oven of 375 degs. for
about 30 mins. Remove cover
and bake another 5 minutes.
Baked Eggplant .
6 tomatoes 1/4 cup onion
'A cup sweet pepper
% tbsp, brown sugar
salt
paprika
1 eggplant, sliced
butter
Cut tomatoes in thick slices
leaving skin on. Place tomatoes
in a greased casserole. Sprinkle
the mixture of minced onion,
green pepper, brown sugar, salt
and paprika over them In anoth-
er. pan place Sliced eggplant dot-
ted with butter. Bake in pre-
heated electric oven for 30 min-
cites, Make toast. Serve a slice
of eggplant on slices of toast top-ped with sliced tomato.,
Tomato-Corn C1heeee
1 green pepper
1 small onion
2 tbsps. butter
1 cup cooked tomatoes
2-3 cup corn
2 tbsps. tapioca
% tsp, salt
3's tsp, pepper
few cayenoe
1 and 1.3 cups grated cheese
Seed and chop green pepper.
Skin and• chop onion. Melt butter
and brown vegetables until brown.
Heat tomatoes and corn in double
boiler,' then add peppers and onion
and remaining ingredients. Cook
for 5 to 7 minutes. Sal-Yee 5.
Squash-Pineapple Dessert
1 medium squash
brown sugar
salt
% cup crushed pineapple
eL cup sugar
1.3 cup orange juice
grated orange rind
butter
Cut squash and seed. Place
pieces in a covered colander and
steam over boiling water until
nearly tender. Peel squash and
cut into % inch cubes. Place
squash and pineapple in alternate
layers, sprinkling each layer. with
sugar, and salt. Add orange rind
and juice, Dot generously with
butter. Bake in electric oven of
350 degs. for 50 minutes.
Pumpkin Pie
1% cups pumpkin
2 egg yolks
2-3 cup brown sugar
% tsp. ginger ,
'/2 tsp. cinnamon
I% cups milk
% cup cream
2 tbsps. rum
3's tsp. salt
2 egg whites, beaten
Line a 9-inch (or two 7-inch)
pie plate with pie dough. Prepare
pumpkin by cutting a medium
sized one in half; remove seeds
and fibres; then bake shell side
up in a pan-placed in a moderate
oven until tender.
Mash pumpkin pulp. Add beat-
en egg . yolks, sugar, spices, milk,
cream and rum or lemon juice.

water over them and let stand

ions in it for Va hour. Drain
onions, spread then on absorb-
ent paper and dredge with
flour. Season with salt and
paprika. Fry in deep fat at
360 degrees until brown. Keep
turning them in 2 inch deep
fat.
3. Green peppers may be skinned
by placing in a hot oven for 3
to 5 minutes.
4. Boiled speet peppers may be
served as a vegetable if pepped
up with a well-seasoned sauce
or a can of condensed celery
soup.

Answer: Yes, both red or green
cultivated grapes will make jelly,
jam or spiced grape chutney. It

half blue and half red grapeS.
Mr. H. D. asks: Can we roast
soybeans that are grown in our
cornfield?
Answer': To roast soybeans,
shell, then boil in salted water
about 35 minutes. Drain and
spread in a shallow greased pan.
Dot with butter. Roast them in
a moderate oven of 350 degrees
until brown or about 20 minutes. sk *

was the scene of a charming aut-
umn wedding when their daugh-
ter, Frances Elizabeth, became
the bride of Ernmerson Smith,
Kippen, son of Mr, and Mrs. Erin=
merson, Smith, Kippen.
Rev. A. H. Daynard officiated,
Miss Marjorie Webster, Varna,
played the wedding music and
accompanied violinist, Gerald
Smith, brother of the groom.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a gown of white net
over taffeta, ballerina length, with
fitted strapless bodice and peplum
of Chantilly lace. The matching
lace jacket had long cilia sleeves
and fingertip veil of French illus-
ion. Her bridal bouquet was an
old fashioned noesgay of red roses
and white baby 'mum*:
Matron of honor, Mrs. Floyd
Armstrong, sister of the bride,
and bridesmaid, Miss Hazel Smith,
Hensel!, sister of the groom, wore
identically styled gowns in mauve
and green. They carried old fash-
ioned nosegays of mauve and yel-
low 'mums.
Dorothea Taylor, sister of the
bride was flower girl. She wore
yellow and carried a nosegay of
yellow and mauve 'mums.
Laird Finlayson, Brueefield, was
best man, and Floyd Armstrong,
Zurich ushered.
A reception followed the cer-
emony. The bride's mother re-
ceived in a gray flowered crepe
dress, accessories to match and a
corsage of pink, carnations. The
,groom's mother assisted wearing
navy sheer dress, with matching
accessories and corsage of yellow
baby 'mums.
The couple left for Detroit. The
bride's traveling costume was a
gray gabardine suit with blue and
white accessories, and a corsage
of pink carnations. They will re-
side near Kippen,
