Homemade Baking Sale The Women's Institute held a homemade baking sale in the For- esters' Hall Friday night. There was a good attendance and every- thing was sold. Patient in London Mrs. Russell King is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London, where she underwent an opera- tion. Her many friends wish her a speedy recovery. Robison on Sunday. -A reception was held in the Forester's Hall on Wednesday in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arthur, newly-weds, when they were presented with a purse of money. Tire - meeting opened with a short worship service. Ruth Shed, dick and Ey, Merrill gave read- ings and Eileen Wright and Ruth Merrill sang a anat. It was de- cided to entertain the missien- ary babies and their mothers at an afternoon meeting in., June. Everyone enjoyed a short sing- song from the Seth Parker books. The meeting closed with hymn 568 and,. the .1Vilzpah benediction!, Bride-elect Honoured A shower was held in the Orange Hall in honour of Miss Jean Kirkconnell. The first part of the evening was spent playing bingo. The guest of honour was called to the front and Mrs. Keith Meehan read an address and Misses Doreen McFarlane and Ruth Daer presented her with a decorated basket containing man useful gifts. After the bride-to- , be had opened the gifts, she thanked all her friends. A lunch was served. Honoring her daughter, Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell was hostess to a trousseau tea. Thee guests were received by Mrs. Kirkcon- nell and the guest of honour. Displaying the bride's trousseau and gifts in the afternoon were Mrs. Keith Meehan and Mrs. Len Archambault. In the evening, Mrs. Glen Patterson and Mrs. Alvin Plunkett. Mrs. Snelling, Brucefield, aunt of the bride, as- misted in serving. Farewell Party A number of neighbours and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hunking for the purpose of honouring.Mrs. E. J. Crawford prior to her de- parture from the community. Mrs. Crawford recently sold the farm to Carl Longman. She is one of the oldest resi- dents of the 13th concession of Hullett, having resided on the farm there for almost 60 years, Her husband, E. J. Crawford, died two years ago this past April. Since then she had kept on the farm with her son Johnston, Mrs. Crawford will be 80 years old in July. The evening was spent playing cards and during the evening Stanley' Lyon and Wilmer Howatt presented Mrs. Crawford with an overnight bag and a purse; while George Powell read an approp- riate address In behalf of the community. Mrs. Crawford expeets`to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Fred Prest, Londesboro. (Intended for last week) Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Stoltz are visiting their son Eldon and Mrs. Stoltz, Aurora. WMS Ladies Visit A large number of the WMS ladies of Londesboro Auxiliary visited with Burns' society on Thursday last and enjoyed tike speaker, a returned rnissionar'y in India, and also the hospitality of the Burns WMS, Bathrooms. Installed A number of householders in the village have installed new bathrooms in their homes this spring. Those who have done so are T. Allen, J. Scott„Robert Townsend and Miss L. Young; and in the country, Bert Shob:z brook and F. Tamblyn. Bert Allen had a new steel roof put on his house last week. Mrs. J. H. Shobbrook and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook spent Tuesday at London. STANLEY Mrs. John 1VicCowan left last week to visit Mr. and. Mrs. Albert Batt, at Steuffville. Dr. Stewart and Francis Day- man, Chatham, spent the week- end with Adam Stewart. Miss Mewhort, a missionary in India for five years, and now taking further training at the United Church Training School, wore an Indian sari,'typical cos- tume of the well-to-do Indian girls, She displayed costumes of the village folk, jewellery, pur- ses, mats, buttons, lamps, plates and water glasSes and jugs.
