IVE.PIN BOWLING NOTES Some season's record, scores were falling fast and furiously in the Clinton Mixed League ses, skins on Monday night. Elmer Murray rolled 367 to top the former league high single of 345. Less than an hour 13ter Wilfred Denomme rolled 391 to take the league high single as well as the former house single of 371, Dick Freeman also had a nicd game with 337. The SIOUX, of which Murray and Freeman are team members, broke the team single record with a 1417. They also hold the team high triple with 3605. LONDON ROAD Eleven members and two vis- itors attended the March meet- ing of the London Road Club, held at the home of Mrs. Milton Wiltse. The meeting opened with the singing of "The Old Rugged Cross" followed by the Creed. The roll call was answered with "Suggestions for a quick Sunday dinner." The minutes of the last meet- ing were read, followed by re- ports from the treasurer and the flower convener. It was decided to make donations to the Clip- pled Children's Fund and also the Red Cross Society. Final plans were made for a euchre party and dance to be held the next evening. The mystery box was won by Mrs. Harry Plumsteel. The programme consisted of readings given by Mrs. H. Plum- steel and Mrs. N. Manning. An Irish contest was conducted by Mrs. Fred Anderson, Sr., with first prize going to Mrs. Roy Plumsteel and the consolation to Mrs. Merrill. The April meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Joseph Clegg. The roll call to be "Your favorite News Commentator." The members of the London Road Club entertained members from the Tuckersmith. and Stan- ley clubs at a euchre party and dance in S.S. 1, Baird's School, on March 21. - The ladies first prize was pre- sented to Miss Helen McEwan, with the consolation prize going to Miss Helen Anderson. The men's first was won by Bill McEwan and the consolation went to Fred Anderson, Sr. The lucky chair prize was presented to Jack Watkins, The draw for the "Triple Irish Chain" quilt, which was on display was then made, and won by Mrs. H. Plum- steel. • After a delicious lunch had been served, music for a lively dance program was provided by Mrs. Roy Cantelon and Mrs. Ken McCowan taking turns at' the piano. They were accompanied respectively, by Stuart McEwan and Ken McCowan on their violins. Several square dances were "called off" by Fred Anderson, Young Mothers' Group Discusses Problems The March . meeting of the Young Mothers' Study Group of Wesley-Willis Church was held at the home of Mrs. F. L. Miller, with Mrs. Stewart Moodie charge and 17 mothers present. The meeting opened with hymn followed by the Lord's Pray-er. The Scripture, Matt, .28 :1,10, -was read by Mrs., Smith, followed by Mrs. Wes Holland reading a poem "4lways Saying Don't." Mrs. W. Jervis read an article on children who steal, then Mrs. Moody made a comparison on answers to: How to teach -obed- ience; an allowance; bragging; between a mothers' magazine written in 1834 and a present one. An article entitled "They have such awful Manners" was read by Mrs. Moodie and a general discussion followed. Mrs. Percy Livermore read letters of thanks from Mrs. Orval Lobby* anti. Mrs, Jack Waldron, former members, who have moved away. The minutes were read by Mrs. Livermore, followed by hymn 87. The meeting closed with the •Miz- pah benediction, a. social hour followed, closing with a delicious lunch served by Mrs. Reg Ship- ley, Mrs. Percy Livermore and Mrs. Miller. The April meeting is to be held at home of Mrs. Bill Holland, with Mrs, Wes Hol- land and Mrs. Hugill as hostesses. 0 Bride-elect Feted Prior to Marriage At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Connell, Albert Street, Clin- ton, 30 friends and relatives of Miss Mabel Grigg, Toronto, bride- elect of April, met to surprise her with a miscellaneous shower on Thursday evening, March 20. The beautifully' decorated doll carriage, laden with gifts was wheeled in by Misses Connie and Susan Smith. After a short program a social hour was spent together. Two members of the Hensell hockey team, John and Allen Nicholson, were fined $75 each by County Magistrate Dudley Holmes at Exeter Tuesday after their convictions on assault charges. Police charged the pair rough- ed up Henry Menard, Exeter restaurant operator, following a hockey game in Forest February 28. A similar charge against Hensall team manager Wilson Al- len was dropped.
