WILLIAM N: TOOK
Aftera lengthy illness, the result
of a stroke, there passed peacefully
away on Sunday .October, 15th, in Van-
couver Hospital, William • N. Took.
He was born seventy :years :ago,
west -.'`of St..Helens;' on: what '.'was
known at the Somerville farm, now
owned by Hartley • *ebb. He spent
his boyhood 'near .St. Helens and in
Ashfield, When a young man he went'
West•. to British : Coluznbia where he
worked on the railway for about for -t
ty • years, until be retired.
He leav(es' to 'mourn, his widow; a
sister, • Mrs.', • Louls • Weatherhead,
St. Helens, and'.a brother Charles of
Saskatchewan. His funeral was con
ducted from anis late residence, New
Westminster on October 19th, with

vieThewed the legislation from 1914 when
the' Canada Temperance • Act was
brought into' brae and never repealed:
that despite 'suspension of the act
from1916 to 1927, it remained In force
in Huron; the recent j!uidgxnent of the
Supreme' Court of Ontario that the
act was valid and iwithin' the compet-
ence of the Dominion parliament; that.
these decisions• are' binding on every
judge,magistrate and every law of-
ficer in the 'province and whereas in.
1934 the Ontario Liquor Board issued
authorities to certain personss to sell
beer and ,during these years beer -has
been' . sold .un'der . these authorities in
violation ' of the law established by
these court 'decisions; and , 'since the
decision" of (the • Supreme Court of
O.ntario,.:'up to and' including the pres-
•erit,, Any, .bees -sand
sold in. this County under govern-
ment authority in violation' of the
•law. •
The Federation in the resolution
also declared that.. the ,issuance ' and
continuance.' of authorities to sell beer
in this county by the Ontario Liquor
Control .Board constitutes an auto-
cratic :apd intolerable defiance of the
Law; and that'by :permitting the board
under' its authority to act in this way,
the government of the Province of
Ontario; is abandoning one of the
most important functions ofd govern-
ment.
