so hive bad *busy time. Still
ming with' utual day-to-day'
problems late water running
for short periods, hydro off
more than on, etc., but you
are -Alto doing the thinking
and planning ahead for pa-
tients, helping the staff and
doctors. The furniture has
arrived for my apartment
above the hospital. I will be
close to my work. Maybe too
close. I can help the three
grade 13 girls, that I have
been training as nursing
assistants.
Hospitals are ter-
ribly understaffed and over
crowded. Three doctors see
300 to 400 patients a day.
Nurses here get $6,000 a
year, and that's with to 20
years experience. I went with
Don Melady to a meeting and
_Hallowe'en, pary with the
CUM) people at Madan. Left
Friday afternoon and came
back' to Ilesha Sunday after-
noon.
There were 20 of us at the
hostel, really nice, hot and
cold showers, tubs etc.
Weather is still nice warm
days and evenings, comfort-
able. Not so much rain as
there was when I came.
I don't know how they grow
their "cows" here. The meat
is tough as leather. You have
to stew everything because
you cannot chew it otherwise.

, Must-get some letters off
for Christmas now or they'll
never make it.
I think I will cut my list
short. One letter is 45 Kobo,
or 90 cents.
Well, must get some more
letters written and post cards
to other friends.
Bye for now
Ray
Letters were received by
the McNichol family before
Oct. 25. These letters contain
interesting informatiop such
as -- on the way to wbrk he
saw his first snake. It was
dead on the road, got hit by a '
car. He says, no other than in
a cage• that's as close as he
wants to see one. Ray and
Don Melady went to a Nigeria
store that caters to the
whites. They found every-
thing they would ever' want
there, mustard, cornstarch.
honey, jams. sausage, hot
dogs in a can, lots of tins of
meat, fish, salmon and every-
thing you'd want. Lots of
fresh vegetables. also cab-
bage, beans, carrots, cucum-
bers, radish, 'entice, egg-
plant. etc. He says it all costs
but 's worth it.
Beer is cheap. They have
cockroaches, but as long as
you keep all food in sealed
containers they get pored and
leave! Everyone has them.
Cats keep the lizards down-
the lizards ate harmless but
all over the place.

about the education system.
Very lax in requirements. etc.
A pass for most subjects is 35

a lot on CUSO help and
teachers from out of state to
teach as Nigerian teachers, it
appears, are not too , well
qualified.
