For three days fifteen shopping carts went full tilt until the wee hours of the mornings, up and down the village's main drag. MacRae's Market was moving. The new grocery store has • been open for about a month but the 'GranclOpening" is this week. Rather than keep loading and unloading a truck for the short hop up the street, owners Mike and Pat MacRae opted to shuttle their mer- chandise by * convoy of shopping carts. All it took was about a down emplosees, the -carts. some elbow grease and it was wheels away until about 4 a.m. each morning. The processionbegan at noon Saturday and the new store opened the f011owing Toes- day. "Two bores of every, thing" were left in the old store while. taking place. so it wouldn't have to shut down. The new store is like ,a dream come true for Mr MacRae, who has been assoc- iated with the business for 17 years. The expandett feetWv has allowed the MacRaeSto int.fase staff by two full-time and one part-time employees. One of these is a full-time butcher, which the other store didn't ' have. Hes Mike Tigani who comes to MacRae's from the !GA in St. Marys where he was the manager of the meat department for 16 years. The new store has a new look to it, "bright and attrac- tive" says Mr. MacRae "and regulations, then as a "last resort" bought the properties for their new store on Mill Street from l.es Seiler last April. An old blacksmith's shop was torn down before the *anal building began in the middle of July. A Small business development bond helped finance the construc- tion which Mr. MacRae says stayed within the estimate. He began working as a grocery boy in what was then known as (George) Goettler's Red and White when he was in high school. He did so for 13 years; the last five as mana- ger of the strife he just moved and renamed it MacRae's Market four years ago. His wife Pat is the new full-time secretary of the store.
