MITCHELL FAIRGROUNDS SPONSORED BY THE MITCHELL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY Seaforth Public Library recently asked several' St. James students to do book reports for them for National Book Festival Week. The library chose a few examples to illustrate the kind of young critics we have in the area. Debbie McLaughlin. Grade 7. reported on Gold Fever Trail by Monica Hugh- es: "The book is about a brother and sister who. liveinr Dawson City and they travel along the mountains to find the gold rush which they do because their mother has died and their father is missing so they went to Klondike to look for him and when they went• there they found him and 'they kept on looking for gold. The purpose of the story was to tell vs-, about the Gold Rush." Ray Anstett of Grade 6-7, wrote a report on "The Incredible Journey" by Shei- la Burnford: "This book is about three animals that travel a great distance west- ward over treaturass turrain to get to their home ofirwest. They were on the way but the old dog was in ruff shape. They went through a lot but when it was Over they were back with their families." Debbie Wright, also of Grade 6-7, did a report on "River Race" by Tony Ger- man: "This book is about murderintrigue,, shanty bat= ties, raft racing. jail breaks. even ro- mance are some of the terrible elements. I think this book is very good. Some of the words that were very hard to pronounce were: regale - a quantity of liquor; hawser-- a large rope; la bas - -over there.
