• The crossroad s community 'w as, first
known as Latta's Corners and later named
Chiselhyrst. The name change w as made
in '1875, when a `post office-=was opened in--.
the crossroad 's community. Chiselhurst
'was -named for a town in England. ,noted
most for the factex-ghiperor Napoleon 111
of France died within its .boundaries.
Chiselhurst was never more than a
hamlet, -although at one time there were
two churches, a blacksmith shop. and the
general suite in which the .post. office was
located. in the community. The store was
destroyed by fire in 1936.
The original Chiselhurst Presbyterian
Church was built originally in 1.880. under
the guidaneeofRey. A :J. Hartley. minister
of Rodgerville Church. Rodgerville, south
of Hensall, 'is another- hamlet that
disappeared with time.
The first church was supported by .22
families, which counted 13 church mem-
bers in the congregation. In 1890. the
membership had increased to 35.
The, churert was. rebuilt 'on a grander
scale' in 1898 (see photograph)„ with a
basethent, chair loft • with an organ and '
seating capacity for 200 worshippers'.

- During-the years it existed. Chiselhurst
'Presbyterian Church was included in
charges with ROdgerville, Exeter. Hensall
and Egmondville.
As the years went on. the Chiselhurst
congregation found it more and. more
difficult to obtain ministerial' assistance.
and sometimes had to arrange the 'services
themselves. After much discussion, they •
" applied to the Heren Presbytery for
permission to Aisband. The petition was •
granted in 1912.. -
In 1915. John McLean bought the
building and pare of the church was built'
into his new home, only a Mile away on the
Hensall Road.. The windows can still be
seen in this hode, now owned-bv Grant
McLean.

baptismal records which were kept for
Chiselhurst Presbyterian Church, .' are
