Rapids, by means of forged draughts.
Xing, who pleaded g ilty and turned State's
evidence, was given : even years on a charge
of uttering a forged draft, Conover three
years for forgery an • sevenyears for utter-
ing. Conover also gets four years' extra
imprisonment for violating the condition
of an old pardon, -taking fourteen years in
all. Conover and Xing are said to have
swindled 27 bank sitter October, 1897. A
J Conover, the e Winghatn botel-keeper,,
and the prorcine t figure in this band of
forgers, has be operating, for about
twenty years. Xi g is only known to have,
joined the gang o years ago. He was
