The Literary and Debating So-
ciety has been organized for the
coming season. Everyone should
help to make the meetings of this
society a success.
The Presbyterian Sunday school
are preparing for their annual enter-
tainment on next Friday evening,
December 23rd. The enterteinrnent
this year promises to excell all ethers
of the past, and will, no doubt, be a
grand success under the manage-
ment of the efficient organist, Miss
Aggie Herbert.

Mr, Gilbert Stevens spent Sunday
last with friends in Logan.
Mr. Young, a student of Knox
College, occupied the pulpit in
Eadies church last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs E. James. of Park-
hill, were vi•iting Mr. James' brother
Thomas, of this place last week.
Mrs, Anderson is visiting her
daughter, Mrs. John Ilastings, of
Orangeville this week.
A number of our young men took
in the entertainment at Belmore last
Friday night and report having a
splendid time.
• A box social will be helrl in school
house number 5, on Friday night,
Dee. 9th, when a good time is ex-
pected. A splendid programme,
consisting of readings, recitations,
dialogues and instrumental music
will be given. Admissicn 5 cents.
Boxes 15 eents. Ladies with boxes
admitted free. Rev. Mr. West, of
Bluevale, will occupy the chair.

Mrs. Forgie, who was visiting
friends in Stanley, returned home on
Friday last.
WHITECIIURCH
The annual meeting of the White-
church Cheese and Butter Manufac-
turing Co. will be held in the
Foresters' hall here on Saturday,
December 17th, at 1.30 p. m. All
shareholders and patrons are re-
quested to attend.
We are informed that Mr. Ben
Mason, late of the Salford hotel, is
negotiating for the hotel in this place.
Mr.:iiason is a first-class hotel man
and has many warm friends in his
old home
Mr. .1. H. Sperling, butter maker,
who has been in eharge of the
creamery here for the past seascn,
has loft the village and will spend
part of the winter in Brussels, The
creamery had a very successful
season's run
Mr. James Sherrill, of Wingham,
has taken up his residenerrbaie and
intends opening up an implement
warehouse, .7 He intends handling
air kinds of farm implements, wind
mills, etc. Farmers will do well to
give him a call before placing their
orders,
Election matters are commencing
to get warm in this vicinity. Mr.
Garrow will get a loyal support from
his friends in this vicinity.,

Mr. F. J. Colvin shipped a D. D.
car of hogs last week to 'Toronto.
Miss Ida Crittington, of 13l3,:ch,
spent Thanksgiving with Miss Chris-
tie Stonehouse.
Mr D. Sproat was in London one
day last week, on hnsiness matters.
Mr. W, Clegg, of Wingham, ship
ped two cars of wheat last week to
Tils on burg.
Mr. and Mrs. Paterson, of Wing -
ham, spent Sunday with Mr. C. Law-
rence,
Mrs. (Dr.) McAsh of this place
spent Thanksgiving with friends in
Brucefield.
The concert given by the Ladies'
Aid of the Presbyterian church was
a decided success financially as well
as otherwise.
Quite a number of young people
of this vicinity spent a pleasanteven-
ing at Mr. Wm Isbister, 2nd line
of Morris, in tripping the light
fantastic till the wee sma' hours of
the morn.

Mr. Thomas McGuire is home
from Harriston on a visit.
Miss Ida Harland who has been
visiting her sister, Mrs. (Tee. Page,
of the first line has returned home to
Clinton.
Mr. Geo. Krachling is b lsy mak-
ing preparations for the erection of a
bank barn next spring. Mr. Krach-
ling has ome of the finest farms and
farm houses in the county, and the
new barn will be in keeping with
its surroundings.
. ^$4r. Wm. Isbister's fine new resi-
dence has been completed and the
family have moved into it. On Fri-
day evening last, a genuine house-
warming was given by Mr. and Mrs.
Isbister to many friends. There
were over one hundred present' and
a very pleasant evening was spent.
Mr. Isbister does not believe in doing
anything by halves.
ST. HELENS.
A political meeting in the interests
of Hon. J. T. Garrow was held in
the hall here on Monday evening,
when quite a large number were
present, Mr, Boyd was voted to the
chair and delivered his maiden
political speech, in which he set folds
the many good qualities of Mr. Gar -
row and the Ontario Government.
He was followed by Messrs. Stuarts
Murray and McCrostie, who deliver-
ed short addresses. Dr. Macdonald,
M. I'., of Wingham, was then called
on and delivered a practical speech,
setting forth all the good qualities of
Hardy Government and called upon
all the electors to give Mr. Darrow
their loyal support. The Reformers
in this section will make a good
showing on December 8th,
