problems could be corrected
by keeping an adequate
record system and by
spending time watching the
cows each day. The three-
week calendar supplied by.
the units was useful for
keeping track of calving and
breeding dates and the an-
ticipated date, of the next
heat, He described the
purchase of a breeding wheel
as the "best money ever
spent" because all the in-
formation was organized in
one place. Observing the
herd 15-20 minutes, twice
daily, was vital if one wished
to improve the conception
statistics of the herd.

Royal commissions in
Ontario are guilty of esces-
sive and immoderate
spending, and the Govern-
ment should be strict about
enforcing guidelines to con-
trol them, said former
Liberal. leader Robert Nixon
in the Legislature this week.
The report of Provincial
Auditor Norman Scott,
tabled Monday, showed that
sixteen royal commissions
cost the Gvocrnment more
than $11 million in the last
four' years.
The Ontario Legislature
gave approval this week to a
bill which will continue rent
control until the end of next
June. Frank Drea, Minister
of Consumer and Com-
mercial Relations;' bitro=
duced the bill which amend-
ed the Residential Premises
Rent Review Act. The bill
postponed the expiration of
the act to June 30 from
December 31.
The Legislature prorogued
this week for Christmas. The
new session is not expected
to commence until sometime
in February, and, since this

j A middle of the night trip
to the barn is not too
practical for most people.
However, the study. does-
point out the importance of
checking the cows before
retiring at night and im•
mediately wht..n entering the
barn in the morning. Starting
to feed or turning on a radio
which signals the start of
chores can cause the cow to
turn her attention to other
ptirsuits and the heat
symptoms will be missed by
the owner.
Dr. Empringham went on
to point out that infertility
