The service in Cannel
Presbyterian church was ,
conducted by Rev. Kenneth
Knight on Sunday, the
subject of his sermon was
"Our King is Here", Miss
Sandra Wadel favoured with,
two accordion solos "0 Holy
Night" and "Angels We
Have Heard On High", Mrs.
Robert Taylor presided atthe
organ and accompanied the
choir in the anthem , "An
Poor Men and Humble".
Mrs, Malcom Dougall and
Mrs. Edith Bell sang the
duet. The poinsettia on thee
Communion table was a gift
from the Queensway Nursing
Home. There will be
Christmas music next
Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Pero
Campbell celebrated their
SOth.wedding anniversary at '
their home in Hensall on
Friday December-15. They
were married at the Fresby-
terian Manse; Hensell and
took up residence on the
groom's farm on the second
concession of Hay Township.
They have three
family: a son, Elmore,
Toronto; Audrey, Mrs. Glenn
Koehler, Hensall; Margaret,
Mrs. Ray Consitt, Kippen;
and nine grandchildren. A
large number of relatives and
friends called to wish them
greetings.
Serving 'were Mrs.
Knehler, Mrs. Consitt. Mrs.
Charles Hay and Mrs, Wm. Rogerson and Mrs. Elmore'
Campbell, Their grand.
daughters Beth Consitt and
Elizabeth Campbell were in
charge •of the - register. A
family dinner was enjoyed at
the Zurich Hotel in the
evening. -Mrs, Campbell's
father— Mr. Hugh Love
formerly of Henson attended
the anniversary.
Mr, and Mrs. Elmore
Campbell and family of
Toronto were weekend
visitors • with the former's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perc
Campbell who celebrated
their 50th wedding anniver-
sary.

Varna Christmas concert popular

Christmas concert was held
in the township hall before
alarge audience of
neighbours and relatives,
including at least one great-
grandparent. Laura Roy gave
the opening recitation. The
Varna Minstrels entertained
with several songs, and kept
the crowd laughing with their
gossip about local people.
All the children of ' the
Sunday School gathered on
stage to sing- Christmas
songs then Rev. Taylor told
them a story as they sat at his
feet. The Junior class pre-.
sented the play "There is a
Santas Claus" and the
Nursery class did two
numbers, "I'll Light My
Recent' visitors with resi-
dents at the Queensway

Varna United Church on
Sunday, with members of the
Sunday School taking part in
the worship service.. White
Gift offerings of money were
donated to the South Huron
Association for the Mentally
Retarded. A short meeting
followed the service,. Ivan
MpClymont, Charles Reid
and Eleanor McAsh were
elected to a Pastoral
Relations Committee to find
a minister for this pastoral
charge.

Mrs. Chapman opened the
meeting with words of
welcome. Mrs. Walters gave
a Christmas reading followed
by singing, "Away In a
Manager" with Alice Scott at
the piano. The scripture was
read by Mrs: Chapman -
'And It Came to Pass'.
The buSiness portion was
chaired by the President.
Mrs. M. Broadfoot. The
minutes of the November
meeting were read by Doris
Sillcry , the treasurer's
report by Vino Berry who
reported that the group 'had
raised over $1.000.

a chance to play Santa
coming down the chimney
with toys.

George Sherman Stewart
died peacefully Friday,
November 10, 1978 at
Central Park • Lodge,
Winnipeg, Manitoba. Aged
01 years, ,he was the husband
of the late Isabelle Stewart of
Crystal City, Manitoba.
Born in• Seaforth, he came
to the Crystal City area in the
early 1900's and he was a
merchant in Crystal City for
many years. Sherman was a
veteran of .the army in the
First World War and a 50
year member of the Crystal
City Branch of the Royal
Canadian Legion as well as a
member of the Oddfellows
Lights, which was presented
at the church service, was
given again at the concert.
The programme was inter-'
spersed with recitations by .
