to Lee
and Mrs. McKinley's
Chicken Farm and Hatchery.
A guide showed us inside the
incubator. We say many
trays of eggs. Next, we saw
the hatching room and many
baby chicks being sorted. We
learned :that they get
vaccinated. '
We really liked visiting the
hen house. There were
hundreds of white Leghorn
hens cackling. The nests -
were like little dog houses
with a cloth flap for a
doorway. An egg conveyor
carried the eggs to the
sorting table. The man let us
help sort out the small eggs.
On TifeSday, October 31st
the Student's eduncil of
Huron Centennial School was
very busy trying to get each
and everyone into the
Hallowe'en spirit. The
Grades 1 and 2 paraded
around the Primary Hall in
their costumes. Later the
Grades from 3-6 went to the
Gym as their grades were
called to be judged. They
were judged for the best
animal character, book
character, spookiest, science
fiction and most original. The
costumes were all very, well
done and it was very hard
judging.

SDHS principal, Bruce
Shaw was born in Montreal,
Quebec and he attended four
different public schools: St.
Thomas, Aylmer, Springfield
and Camp Borden. Mr. Shaw
was also a good student in
Banting Secondary School,
Portage Laprairie and St.
Thomas High School. He
received his B.A. at Western
University in London and is
an English specialist.
While in high school, Mr.
Shaw participated in basket
ball and football and contin-
ued to show his interest in
sports by coaching basketball
and soccer teams in Exeter
and Seaforth.
Before beginning his excit-
ing career as principal and
Grade 13 English teacher at
S.D.H.S., he taught English,
at South Huron in Exeter• and
was head of the English
department there for 4 years.
MAYOR
As most of you know, Mr.
Shaw is the mayor of Exeter
but this year, after 4 years of
loyal service to his town, he
is retiring:—
Mr. Shaw's out-of-school
activities Are many; he is on
the executive of the Exeter
Branch of the Big Brother
Association, Director of the
London and District Heart
Foundation, Chairman of the
Exeter Planning Board, a
member of the Royal Canal=
ian Legion and also finds
time to particiapte in the
Lion's Club of Exeter. In the
past he has tuaght an
intermediate Sunday School
class 'at Exeter United,
Church.
-SWIMMING
Mr. Shaw's interests in-
clude swimming, tennis;
baseball, hockey and making
the students use proper
grammar.
Mr, Shaw is• married and
BY WENDY KLOSS has_,, two good-looking sons
and is residing, , of course, in
Exeter.
In my opinion, Mr. Shaw is
a super principal and from
what I've hear he's apretty
good English teacher too.
The main quality noticed in
Mr. Shaw is that he cares not
only about his students but
about people in general. I
think Mr. Shaw has set a
wonderful example for the
students and other teachers
at S.D.H.S.
