On Saturday, Nov. 18. the wingham Atoms played here in Seaforth. The Seaforth team seemed to really fall apart in the first period as the Wingham team lead the scoring of 2 - 1. A pair of late game'. comebacks; two absolute routs and one very rough match have been the maim attractions over the last two Sunday evenings. There Avas also one very dull boring game to please even the most jaded connoisseur. The first contest of the evening res ulted in the Wings continuing their hot streak by virtue of a 4.1 triumph over the Blues. Both clubs employed a tight- eheeking .style of hockey and the •Csult was tantamount to watching artificial turf grow. ' Four -players. .s dared the Wing scoring w ith George Reeves, Casey Klaver, Bruce Rathwell and Kevin Bennett all getting single scores. John Nash netted the lone glues goal. Flyers 8 Kings 6 In this . league you are never out game. It is cry dangerous indeed to sit on a lead and espeiially so with 'the way goals arc being scored this season. The Flyers pounced on the Royal Team early and cruised to a big 7-2 lead. The Whiteshirts then laid back and watched as the kings potted 4 straight goals to conic within One. An empty net score by Steve Southgate saved the Flyers from a very embaras- sing situation. • Southgate scored 4 • times for the Flyers to pace his club to victory. Brian Cooper tallied twice with John LanSink and Gord O'Dwyer rounding out the winner's scoring. Putting the game into perspective, however, one -Would-haVe -to say the Flyers came up flat . while the Blue boys tough defensive play backed by another strong' goaltending performance by Rick Fortune was enough to carry the winners to the upset victory. Midgets win Seaforth Midgets came up with a strong effort when they won their second straigl game handing the Clinton squad a 6.0 whitewash. The local boys put together a team effort and got strong- er and more confident as the game progressed. Mark Murray on a pass from Joe Anstett opened the scoring as Jim McClure in the Sea- forth nets played a strong period keeping the visitors off—the----seorPboard_. The second period saw Seaforth skate rings around their opponents when Mike Vander Velden upped the count to 2-0 and Brent Finlayson notched Seaforth's third goal. In 'the final period Seaforth completely outplayed the visitors making precision passes and with good goal- tending left only the total number of goals in doubt. Mark Murray, with his Second of the night, then Joe Anstett and finally Mike Flanagan showed they can skate and play hockey. No less than three upsets took .oki pclae c ill the Haw ks,‘Vings match. The re I team went into the nt:tteli as prohibitive favourites to stretch their win streak to five games. But a funny- thing • hap- pened on their' way to* the scoreboard. The Hawks spread. their wings and buzz bombed the 'Red team in waltzing to a convinciag t 10.3 romp. The win proved two very important points. The first is that the Wings can be beaten. Some people had suggested that the club may not lose more than 3 or 4 matches all season long. The win by the Hawks has also proven that there is at long last parity in the league. That is one ingredient that has been missing for some years now.
