It forces the manure from the barn, through an underground
pipe to the Storage area. As the manure enters storage area
from below, the outside surface forms a crust, which retains
the important nitrogen and potassium inside the pile and also
reduces the odor and fly problems. And the manure is ready
for spreading, when you want it.

A report on the George
Kerr controversy prepared
by Herbert Langdon, Deputy
Director of Crown Attorneys
says the former Solicitor-
General's main motive in
calling an Assistant Crown
Attorney was to influence
sentencing of a constituent.
The report says Mr. Kerr
called Halton Assistant
Crown Attorney David Price
to persuade him not to press
for jail term. The call was
made minutes "before the
constituent in question was
to appear in court.

Last week, in a major
confrontation in the Legis-
lature, the Liberal and New
Democratic Parties
threatened to vote together
to reduce the Ministry of
Housing's spending by
$18,000 - an amount equal to
the extra salary paid to the
Minister. The Government
House Leader warned that
such a move could be
considered a vote. of non-
confidence. Subsequently
the government backed off
just far enough on the
controversial Cantrakon
development on the Niagara
Escarpment to avoid possible
defeat on this matter. Tile
Housing Minister, Claude
Bennett, said he will arrange
meetings between Cantrakon
and local ratariayers opposed
to thi development. Mean-
while, the PreIect'S architect
has indicated that the
ceiniiany would be willing to
settle on another location if it
is within an hour's drive of
the airport -and offers an
equally spectacular view.
Subsequently, landowners
on the Niagara Escarpment
and in other areas of Ontario
have offered to sell their land
for the controversial Cant-
rakon Ltd. project. The
Housing Minister has
indicated—that he has re-
ceived more than a dozen
offers from landowners
wishing to sell their property
for the $16-million hotel and
conference centre. He stated
that he told the people
concerned to put their offers
in writing.

Eight to 10 municipal
bridges collapse every year
in Ontario, but motorists
need have no fear of using
deficient bridges if they
respect posted ioail limits, a
provincial official said this
week, Bridge accidents •
generally occur in rural areas
and involve truckers who
ignore signs stating the
capacity of the bridge. The
Transportation Minister
stated earlier in the week
that 2,554 of 8,300 municipal
bridges surveyed during the
past trio years were found to
be structurally deficient.
Those that are most in need
of repair are.456 bridges with
a load limit of six tons or less'.
It was emphasized that none
of the bridges along the
13,000 miles of provincial
highways built and main-
tained by the ministry is
deficient. A five-year
program of repair is to be
undertaken by the munici-
palities, with the province
paying 80% of the cost. A
ministry aide said that the
Minister would probably
have made less of the matter
than he did in interviews if
he weren't interested in
persuading the Management
Board of Cabinet that an
additional $6-million is
needed for repairs. The
bridge survey concluded that
the province is providing
enough money to allow
regional governments and
other large municipalities to
eliminate all, their deficient
bridges within two or three
years. However, it was
indicated that eliminating
unsound bridges under the
jurisdiction of largely rural
townships would require a
doubling , of the present
annual provincial-

million.
