The Seaforth Centenaires
scored two unanswered goals
in the third period on S'enclaY
afternoott before a hometown
crowd of 230 fans as they
defeated the league leading
Mitchell Hawks 4-2. The loss
for the Hawks was their first
in nine games. The Hawks
record now stands at 6 wins,
one less, and two ties, The
win for the Centepaires,
coupled with the Lucan lrishs.
7.5 lost to Port Stanley leaves
the Centenaires in second
place with a record of 4 wins,
3 losses, and two ties.
Louie Arts in the Centen-
aires nets was the number
one star of the game as he
was pepperedwith a barage
of 61 Shots. Tom Chessel at
the other end of the rink
faced only 23 shots. The two
teams were deadlocked at 1-1
after the first frame with Phil
Avery scoring for the Hawks
and Donny Heard for the
Centenaires. The, second
stanza saw the Hawks com-
pletely dominate the play.
They jumped into a 2-1 lead
as Jay Heenbuck soared with
Seaforths Wayne Parkinson
in the penalty box. Just 16
seconds later Frankie Flan-
nagan laid a perfect pass
onto the stick of Ian Doig in
the slot area and he fired a
drive past Chessel to knot the
score at 2-2. Arts was partic-
ularly sharp in the period as
he faced 27 shots, many of
them 'from close in. Chessel
has rather an easy time as he
ficed only four Centenaire
shots.
Stronger
The Centenaires came out
stronger in the third period
and at the midway mark
Jimmy Nash fired the puck
past Chessel to give the
locals a 3.2 lead. The strong
skating Hawks tried desper-
ately to tie the score but were
thwarted,by the strong fore-
checking of the entire cent-,
enajre' team and also by the
fantastic goaltending of Arts.
With only a ' minute re-
maining in the game hard-
working Nash picked up a
loose puck and fed a perfect
pass to Cam Doig who went
in and drew Chessel out of
position and tucked the puck
into the net to sew up the '
victory. Only twelve minor
penalites were called in the
game with each team taking
six a piece.
Centenaires 7 Mt. Brydges 1
On Friday night at the
local arena the "Centerfaires
got goals from seven differ-
ent players in their victory
over the Southern division
cellar • dwellers, the Mt.
Brydges Cougars. The game
was rather a chippy one with
87 minutes in penalties' being
handed out. The Cougars
picked up 5A minutes includ-
ing 2 fighting majors, a game
misconduct and a major mis-
conduct. The Centenaires led
2-0 after the first and in-
creased it to 4-0 afater the
second. They scored three
more times in the 'third.'
Goaltender Louie Arts had
his shutout bid stopped at
the 8:51 mark of the third,
Jim Nash and Mark Tywyn-
ham scored for the Centen-
aires in the first frame with
Larry Dalton and Don Hear
scoring in the second. Third
period marksmen were Cam
Doig, Doug Anstett and
Wayne Parkinson. The Cent-
enaires controlled the game
right 'from the opening
whistle and had it not been
for the Mt. Brydges goal-
tender the score could easily
have been much higher.
Centenaires 4 Tavistock 4
The , Tavistock Braves
came up •with three goals in
the final five minutes of the
game to earn 4.4 tie with the
Centenaires in Tavistock
Saturday night. Three of
Tavistock's four goals came
on the power play. Larry
Dalton wasted little time in
getting the Centenaires on
the scoreboard as he stepped
in over the Tavistoci Otte
line and rifled a drive past
Braves 'goaltender Geremy
Grant, That goal was scored
at the 48 second mark of the
first period. At the 4;46 mark
of the same frame Ian Doig
upped the Centenaires lead
to 2-0 by ssvoring an un-
assisted tally. The Second
period saw the Centenaires
hike their lead' to 3-0 as Jim
Nash finished off a beautiful
three way passing play with
Mike Feeney and Doug
Anstett. With only 11 sec-
onds remaining in the period
and Anstett in the penalty
box the Braves finally hit the
scoreboard with a goal by
Dennis Gingerich.
I the third period the
Centenaires regained their
three goal lead as Frank
Flannagan blinked the red
light from Ian and Cam Doig.
That goal came on the power
play with less than ten
minutes remaining in the
game. From that point on the
Centenaires seemed to have
trouble clearing the puck out
Of their own end and along
with a couple of penalties
soon saw their three goal
lead diminish. With only 39
seconds remaining and Nash
sitting out a tripping penalty
the Braves tied the score.
The Centenaires picked up
nine of seventeey penalites
called in the gattfe including
four in the final period.
Centenaire Centenaire Notes: Centen-
aires picked up five Out of a
possible six points on the
weekend. Goaltender Louie
Arts ,allowed seven goals in
the three weekend •games.
Not bad considering he faced
125 shots. Paul McClure
missed all three weekend
games as a result of studying
for exams. Chris Ring played
one shift on Sunday but
should be ready for the
teams game Tavistock
Friday night. Home game
attendance is steadily rising.
Next home game 'for the
Centenaires is Tues. Nov. 21
when they play host to the
Southern division leaders the
Belmont Bombers.
11
Scoring each 3 goals were
Scott Driscoll and
Murray. Each adding 1 m re
to the score board were Jeff
Reid, Mike Betties and
Trevor Price. Goalies Ray-
mond Anstett and Steve
Stapleton played outstand-
ingly in net for their first shut
out game of the season.
Another defense player for
the Seafereh team, is Brian
Dupuis who's name was
missed in last week's list of
players.
Next home game is Sat.
Nov. ,18. Wingham plays
here at 4:45. ,
