Henry Harburn, who has
served as the deputy reeve of
Hibbert Township for the
past sb6rears, is seeking the
position of reeve in the
upcoming elections.
Mr. Harburn,' who resides
at R.R.2, Staffa, is married to
Iren Harburn and has two
daughters, Norma and Kathy
and five grandchildren.'
During his 12 Years as a
member of }fibbed council,
he was a councillor for six
years, served as a deputy
reeve for six years and was a
member of county council for
four years. .
Mr. Harburn was chair-
man :.of the Reforestation,
Fish and Game committee
for two years, served for one
year on the property commit-
tee and for one year .on the
. road committee.
He is also a member of the
Ausable-Bayfield Con-
servation Authority and has
been active in sports for a
number of years.
Mr. Harburn said he has
12 years of experience on
council and time to spend to
serve the ratepayers best as
reeve.

The deputy reeve has
served on the Hibbcrt council

the Upper Thames Valley
Conservation Authority
hoard and the Seaforth fire
area board.
Mr. Swart said he let his
name stand for election since
he feels he is capable of
doing the job and has the
time to serve on council.
The deputy reeve- said the
main objective of council
over the next two years will
be to continue building roads
in Hibbcrt Township.
Candidate for Councillor
Don Johns, who lives on
Con. 1.2, Hibbcrt Township,
is seeking election for his
second term as councillor on
Hibbert Township council.
Mr. Johns, who is married
with two sons, aged 20 and
18 years old. and one
daughter, 12 years old.
operates a dairy farm.
The candidate served on
the township council for the
past two years. During that

resides at R.R.4, Seaforth, is
:-running for a seat on ,
.Tuckersmith Township
Council.
'Mr. Fortheringham, who
farms in the township, is
married and has two children
in school. The candidate has
served on the Seaforth Fall
rair Board, and has been
active in theCurling Club and
is an active member of his
church.
Mr. Fotheringham has
served on Tuckersmith
council for the past tweyears
and was a member of the
Seaforth fire board and
served on the day care board.
The candidate said the
reason he ran in the last
election was that he thotight
it was time there was some
new blood on council and
that there were quite a few,
things which needed at-
tending to, He said there are
still things he hopes council
can accomplish in' the' next
two. years, and the reason he
is seeking re-election is that
he found the job of councillor
both interesting and chal-
lenging.
Mr. • Fotheringham said
one of the main issues is the
-replacement ''of some Of the
horse and buggy bridges in
the township, with the
Broadfoot and McLean
bridge being replaied first.

Rob Gates
C.R. "Rob'! Gates, a
resident of Vanastra, is
seeking election as a council-
lor on Tuckersmith Township
council.
/ Mr. Gates, the father of
two boys, came to Vanastra
from Kitchener lb 1972 when
he accepted a position with
Dominion Roads and
Machinery in Goderich.
Fie is now employed as an
auditor with Revenue Canda.
Mr. Gates involvement
with the Community has
included sitting on the
Tuckersmith Day Care Board
and the 'recreation board as

the township was Roy Swart,
acclaimed as deputy-reeve
for the coming term, .
Rest-McPhail, the former
reeve and Henry Harburn,
the former deputy-reeve, are
both running for the reeve's
Position.
Also, four candidates are
seeking the three councillor's
position in the upcoming
municipal elect*.
Candidate for Reeve
. Ross McPhail
Ross McPhail, R.R.2, Staf-
fa, a candidate for reeve of
Hibbert Township, has
served in municipal politics
for the past 15 years. Mr.
McPhail has been reeve of
the township for the' ast 12
years.
Mr. MCPhail said he seeks
office because he has a liking
forpublie life in a small way,
likes the competition and the
challenge of running for
office.
Mr. McPhail• said council
will continue to examine and
control expenditures in their
next two year term of office.
While the reeve said "We
probably can't beat in-
flation", he said he foresees
no rapid increase in taxes for
township ratepayers.
The reeve said council will
continue their road building
program. N xt year, a new
bri i be built on the
south boundary of the.
Ausable River, with Perth
and. Huron counties sharing
the cost. •
Mr. McPhail said he is also
pleased with the results of
the township's official plan
and the zoning bylaws. He
said these have given council
some control over the
development of the
municipality. Mr. McPhail
added the 'official plan by
no means perfect and is
continually being reviewed,
with the fee structure as it
relates to the township
building inspector.
The, reeve also thanked the
teers who have helped
carry ou recreation pro-
grams i Dublin , and
Cromarty. e said the efforts
were larg ly sustained- by
members f the two re-
creation co mittees at little
cost to Hib ert' taxpayers.

The candidate said. "If
elected I will continue to
serve the ratepayers of the

Herb B rown
Herb Brown, running for
re-election as a Councillor on
Hibbert Township councillor,
residesin „,Dorblin,
Mr. Brown is married, and
the father of 10 children,
three of whom are still in
school.
Mr. Brown is employed at
Looby Construction in
Dublin,
He has served on Hibbert
Township council for four
years. -
The councillor represented
the township -on the Dublin
Centennial Committee • and
the Mitchell arena board.
He is also first vice-pre-
sident of the Dublin District
Lions Club and is president
of the Dublin and District
Athletic Association.
In the past, he also served
one year as a Dublin village
trustee.
• Mr. Brown decided to let
his name stand for re-
eleccion since he is interested
in community affairs and has
enjoyed his time on council.
Councillor candidate
Leo Kroonen
Leo Kroonen, who is run-
ning for a seat on Hibbert
Township council, lives in
Dublin.
Mr. ; Kroonen came to
Hibbert Township from Hol-
land 25 years ago and now
operates a sow to farrow to
finish operation and a 'small
beef lot. He also operates
Lim-Bant Farm Supplies.
The candidate has one son
in the operation with him, a
second sbn attending Fan-
shawe '. College and a
daughter ,who is a student at
Mitchell District High
School.
Mr. Kroonens has been
the local representative on
the Perth County Pork Pro-
ducers for the past 18 years,
and was regional director of
the Ontario Farmers Union
for three years. He is now a
member of the Ontario ••
Federation of Agriculture.
Mr. Kroonens said he
decided to run for office since
he feels the livestock man is
not fully represented on the
council, especially -.now that
there are new building by-
laws and the way they are
being implemented.
He said the main issues
facing the township are to
combat inflation in every way
possible and to get the right
representative on each of the
committees.

Reeve Ervin Sillery
Ervin Sillery, who lives at
RR 1: Brucefield, haS been
acclaimed as the reeve of
Tuckersmith Township.
Mr. Silery. who • is a
farmer, has been on the
'township council for 17 years
including six years spent as
deputy-reeve under Elgin
Thompson.
He has been township
reeve for the past two years.
, He said under the social
and political structure there
is a need for lead'ership and if
the people are satisfied,
"then I feel I'm helping with
my 'community."
Mr. Sillery said a lot

past he has had excellent
co-operation from council,
The reeve said the council
