It was up hill and down I,
-dale for over- 250--hikers —
Sunday afternoon as they
walked through newly fallen
--leaves--on-the--61---acre--Batv.--7
nockburn Wildlife area three
miles west of Brucefield. The
weather was ideal--sunny
and warm.
The guided' walk was
sponsored by the Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation
Authority which acquired the
property five years ago.
The nature trail led
through a 'cedar swamp
where the hikers crossed
several bridges over the
winding Bannockburn Creek,
up to the top or the open
meadow where hawthorns
and old apple trees grow and
into the hardwood area
covering the higher hills.
Here the walkers saw the tall
trees such as butternut,
beech, ironwood, ash, birch,
black cherry, elm-: basswood,
aspen and red and soft
maples.
The shy forest and
meadow creatures remained
out of sight including the
rabbits, the muskrats, the
foxes--only the blue jay's cry
broke the silence and the
rustle of the colorful leaveS,
The hikers were served hot
chocolate and apple cider by i
Authority officials at the end
of the walk.

Ghosts, witches, goblins
and other Trick or treaters
are getting ready for the big
haunt. The Ontario Safety
Ledgue has some suggest-
ionk to help you recognize
safety-tonscious spooks
when you see them. Look for:
Glowing Ghosts That Hal-
loween spook with the eerie
glow is probably{ 'a wise
young ghost sporting reflect-
ive tape-or material. If you're
driving, you'll be sure trispot
this one...even on the black-
est night,
One Skier .- A trick or treater
who glides-up one side of the
street at a time. They never
crisi-cross the street.
MaSkless Marauder - This
one, knows it doesn't take a
lot Of make-up to put on a
scary face. It's safer than a
mask 111.01 could interfere
with Vision and hearing.

Slokeion.Trent can increase their safety by
making sure eye holes are
large enough and hearing is
not blocked,
Outsider - It's in to be out ...
never entering strange hous-
es or apartinents that is.
Non Burner - This one never
carries a candle, and the
costume is made of flame
resistant material.
Night Lighter - A flashlight
in the hand is worth more
than a candle in the pumpkin
. . . it's safer too.
Ghastly Grouper - A group of
frightening Halloween.
haUnters is much more scary
to look at than a single spook.
There's also safety in num-
bers. Young children should
be. sure to go out with an
adult.
Boundary Boo-er - Parents

Now you know what to look
for on Halloween. If you want
,to haunt your neighbourhood
or if you're a parent with
children who are planning to
take up the tradition; think of
safety first and get into the
