The recommended range for high moisture corn is 25.32% and 30-37% for high moisture ear corn. Harvesting losses can also be reduced ' significantly if carried out at the proper moisture level. Tests •have indicated an 8.6 bu/acre harvesting loss from corn at —45%-milisfure com ared to a 4.8 bu/acre loss It.30 0. The losses then tend tp increase rapidly again if the corn becomes too dry. Part of this is due to weather but the main part is due to management. In other• words, most of these weeds can be controlled and they are identified, if the right herbicide is used at the proper rate and time. • The 1978 crop is history. but we Can start now on the 1979 crop by identifying weed problems now .and recording these problems. One thing is certain, many fields have weeds going to seed this year. These seeds ate capable of costing us more money next year. In fact, it will take 2 or 3 years of excellent weed cpntrdl to effectively reduce the num- ber of weed. seeds that are returned to the land in 1978. he handy one!
