Every year Canada has a Fire Prevention Week to make people aware.of fires and try to teach
Fire Prevention.
The fire Department in Seaforth have set up a Fire Prevention Programme to help the general
public. We have started in the elementary schools in our area for Grade 5 pupils. The Fire
Chiefs ASsociation of Ontario are hving7a Fire Prevention Poster Contest for the best poster
for a boy and girl with the first prize' being $125.00.' • -
However, we the adults should also educate ourself in Fire Prevention. Most fires start
through carelessneSs in the homes and to 'prevent these 'fires here are scime h'elp'ful tips:
1. Check your fuse panel and •see if you are using, the rightfuses., Use 15 ampere-fuse for
ordinary circuits, Never use areitsiiii4 •fuses.
2. Electrical Appliances - Check cords regularly awl, replace if breaks or frays appear.
3. Have yOur heatidg. system properly maintained. '
41 Keep storage.-places free: from rubbish and clean.
5. Never store small gasoline engines in your basement.
6. Do not place flimsy or combustible deborations over electric light globes or near 'open
lights or heaters.

will check yoLir premises.
Every year between 600 and -700 pe le lose their lives in fires. The fire department
recommend that an alert system shout be installed in every home which- are available from
your fire department and the local erchant. Early warning could save the lives of your
'families and your investment. We also recommend to place a fire extinguisher in your home in
case of fire. Never say it can't happen to 'me! Act now! Accidents do occur.
