There are a thou- sand languages which have - never been put in writing. This type 'of 'work requires deep concentration, and is • quite exhausting, so period- ically they move from the tribe to their home in Uka.rumpa, wWre their four children can attend school. All teachers are unpaid volunteers, as the whole village is made up of trans- lators who depend, on the offerings of interested people for their expenses. The Oksapmin people are very primitive, but - are changing some since the Missionaries arrived. They work very hard in the vege- table fields, with little in the way of recreation. A man decorates himself by wearing - a pig's tusk through his nose, and girls may have patterns dyed on their faces. Their only crafts are string bags (bill ens) intricately worked from shreds of bark, and wails maderby splitting and flattening branches of the pit-pit tree, --and arranging them in lovely designs. Mrs. _ Lawrence showed excellent pictures, and is a very entertaining speaker. The programme commit- tee• of Mildred McAsh, Gvvynne Roberts, Elaine Stephenson, 'Nora -Heard and Lorna Johnston presented a devotional on. "The' Lord is My Shepherd", and served lunch. Barbara Consitt hosted a shower for Peggy • Kufner of London, bride-elect of Ron Keys, • on Friday evening. About forty neighbours and relatives attended. The third game was scheduled for Tuesday, they'll- play in 'Dashvvood Friday night, and if a fith game is necessary, it will be in Varna on Sunday after- noon. This might be a good time to express the thanks of the people of the Varna com- munity to the township Re- creation Committee for their leadership In ' providing so many activities.
